PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Create a solid foundation for achieving dramatic and sustainable team
performance with this comprehensive workshop that establishes a common
language, a common set of basic principles, and a common set of tools for
creating high performance teams. It identifies the organizational dynamics that
create the need for teams, provides an actionable roadmap for building high
performance teams, defines how teams can create a collaborative relationship
with management, and provides a strategy for consistently achieving high
performance.
DESIGN:
A modular design that allows for easy customization of content
and great flexibility in delivery. Each module is based on an
actionable model to facilitate learning. The use of Models
provides a quick visual reference and summary of the course
materials
OPTIONS:
The workshop can be used to assess team performance through
use of post workshop web based survey feedback tools. The
workshop can also be used to assess environmental roadblocks
to team performance through use of post workshop web based
survey feedback tools.
A web based team competency model is also available and can
be used for pre and post testing to measure learning and to
create an organization wide needs assessment.
LENGTH:
1 Day - Executive Overview
This workshop is designed to provide top executives with an
overview of the basic principles taught in the workshop.
2 Day – Workshop
This workshop is designed for individuals who will be participating
on teams, have staff they will be participating on teams, or who
will be working with high performance teams.
CLASS SIZE: 25 maximum participants per class.
COST:
1 Day Executive Overview $3,000.00 plus materials
2 Day Workshop $7,500.00 plus materials

LEARNING OVERVIEW
MODULE 1: ORGANIZATIONAL BOUNDARY CROSSING – WHY TEAMS?
Participants learn the Organizational Playing Field Model to understand the
organizational dynamics that create the need for teams and the organizational
dynamics that will create organizational roadblocks to team performance.
This section increases participant
motivation and commitment to high
performance teams by establishing a
solid “organizational rationale” and a
“compelling business reason” for the
use teams. Without this foundation
efforts at establishing high
performance teams are often seen as
“just another management program”
that will soon pass.
Special emphasis is given to the types
of teams the client organization is
trying to establish.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
In this module participants will learn:
1. How the organizational dynamics of differentiation and integration create
the need for high performance teams
2. Compelling business reason for teams
3. The role of risk taking in the team environment
4. The organizational dynamics that will inhibit team performance
5. The roles and responsibilities of high performance teams
6. The benefits of team participation
RETURN ON INVESTMENT
1. Increased motivation and commitment to creating high performance
teams.
2. Establishment of a common understanding of the roles and
responsibilities of teams across the organization.
3. Increased collaboration between team members and reduced conflict
over team roles and responsibilities.
4. Increased levels of risk taking in the organization.
5. Increased focus on doing the “right thing for the business”.

MODULE 2: STAGES OF TEAM DEVELOPMENT – HOW TEAMS?
Participants learn the Stages of Team Development model that provides a clear
and actionable roadmap for creating high
performance teams. Team development is
broken into four distinct stages and each
stage is examined in terms of its personal,
interpersonal and group dynamics. This
allows participant to learn both the content
and process of team development.
Participants examine team development as
an investment process and identify the
investment required at each stage of
development to achieve high performance.
They also examine the return on investment
that can be derived from achieving high
performance.
Participants also learn the ten key team
dynamics that predict team performance.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
In this module participants will learn:
1. The Stages of team development.
2. The ten team dynamics that are predictors of team success.
3. An action oriented teambuilding process of diagnosis, intervention,
evaluation and rework.
4. How team chemistry at the personal, interpersonal and group level of
team dynamics affect team performance.
5. The level of “investment” required for a team to achieve high
performance.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT
1. Accelerated development of high performance teams.
2. Increased consistency in team performance across the organization.
3. Establishment of a common model of team development across the
organization.
4. Less discussion and conflict on how to build high performance teams.
5. Establishment of specific milestones of team development.
6. More accurate assessment of the level of investment required for a given
team to achieve high performance.
7. Establishment of milestones and measures of team performance.

MODULE 3: HOW TEAMS AND MANAGEMENT?
This module lays the foundation for creating a collaborative relationship between
teams and management by identifying the roles and responsibilities of functional
management when working with high performance teams. Participant learn
sources of power and empowerment and how teams can use “business
accountability” to counter-balance
functional managements “authority”
when dealing with critical issues.
Participants learn a collaborative team
process that minimizes conflict
between teams and management over
power, authority and control. This
module also defines a process for
escalating critical issues for action
when teams and management find
themselves in a conflict that they
cannot resolve.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
In this module participants will learn:
1. Sources of organizational power that are at play in the team environment.
2. The roles and responsibilities of functional management to create a
collaborative work relationship with teams.
3. How teams can establish “business accountability” to balance functional
management authority.
4. How teams can create an action orientation on critical issues by
escalating them up the management chain of command.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT
1. Increased action on critical issues within the organization.
2. Increased collaboration between teams and management.
3. Increased levels of risk taking in the organization.
4. Increased focus on doing the “right thing for the business”.
5. More self-directed team members and staff.
6. Reduced need for supervision and management.

needs assessment are included in the workshop they will be introduced at this
time.

BENCHMARKING
To measure learning and increases in performance we can establish
benchmarks for competency and team performance through 360-degree
survey/feedback.
Individual Learning and Performance
By running the Competency Model assessment prior to this session we can
establish benchmarks for individual and organizational competency and
performance. This survey can be re-run after the training session to measure
learning and increases in performance.
Team Performance
Running the Team Dynamics Survey prior to this session establishes a
benchmark of performance for specific teams and across teams in the
organization. Re-running this survey periodically will measure increased
performance by team and across teams in the organization.
