USA/CANADA LEADERSHIP FORUM
District 18-N will hold its next Cabinet Meeting at the
meeting location of the Hephzibah Lions Club at JESSE CAR-
ROLL COMMUNITY CENTER 4335 WINDSOR SPRINGS
RD on Saturday October 10 at 1:30 PM. The address listed
above is not correct as listed on the PU101. Either follow the
map supplied by PCC Jon Winters or if you are using a GPS
enter 4977 Windsor Springs Road. If you need additional
instructions, please call PCC Jon on his cell listed below.
All Lions are encouraged to attend this meeting as we
discuss the service of Lions to our communities. DG Larry is
conducting the District Cabinet meetings in different parts
of the District in an effort to promote attendance of Lions
from clubs who normally do not attend meetings outside of
their club.
Grand Rapids, MI, has come and gone.
If you went, you enjoyed a new look
for the Forum as well as more sessions
and good discussions with Lions from the USA and Canada.
This year’s Forum started with a full day on Thursday
and continued until closing with a fireworks display on Saturday night. Not only did the Lions have choices of over 60
great sessions ranging from specific sessions for club, district, and international positions to Lions University but the
Forum had two interesting speakers, and a fun time. Thursday night was a FUN TIME complete with a Ferris wheel to
ride, glow sticks, and GREAT entertainment. On Saturday
night we were reminded of our past and why we are LIONS!
Mark September 15-17, 2016, on your calendar and
plan to attend the Forum in Omaha, Nebraska. Register
online at www.forum.org. Over 700 Lions have already registered. Registration fees go up on June 1!

abundance of fresh seafood and the most yatai (street
food stalls) in all of Japan.
The convention will include festivities that showcase
our own culturally diverse membership, such as the International Parade of Nations in the heart of Fukuoka
City. For up-to-date information about the convention,

New Centennial Video: Knights of the
Blind
The latest video in our Lions Centennial series is
now available to view and download from the LCI website. Watch how Lions became known as Knights of the
Blind, serving blind and visually impaired people around
the world for the past 100 years. Lions Centennial videos include rare images and footage that offer a peek
into the association's rich history of community service.
Visit the Lions100 website for the entire Centennial series, and be sure to share the videos and your Centennial activities on social media using the hashtag #LIONS100.
On the Road to Centennial Success
Over a year into the Centennial Service Challenge, we're
happy to report that we've
reached the halfway mark in
our goal to benefit 100 million people. But there are
still millions of people who need the service and support of Lions like you! Want to get your club involved?
This October 4–10, help us reach our Centennial goal by
joining the Worldwide Week of Service in Sight and
hosting a service project promoting awareness of eye
health, blindness and vision impairment. Visit the
Worldwide Week of Service in Sight page to learn
more!
Attention –
Secretaries
Club
You have one of the most
important and challenging
positions in Lions. Do you realize that what you do (or
fail to do) directly affects your members, your club,
your President, your Zone Chairman, your District Governor and beyond?
An example of one item on your list of duties that is
the simplest, but has far reaching consequences, is filing your Monthly Membership Report (MMR). It takes
about 5 minutes a month to file your MMR and Lions
Clubs International Headquarters uses your report immediately to generate management reports that are
used worldwide. This is the reason that you will be
“hounded” near the end of each month to submit your
MMR.
So what are some of the consequences of NOT doing it? There are a number of “excellence awards” that
conscientious Lions work hard to earn and most all of
them involve the participation of you; the Club Secretary. To name a few, the “Club Excellence Award” requires that all MMRs be submitted on time. Same with
the Zone Chairman and District Governor Awards.
Would you want to cause your Club and your District
Governor to lose an excellence award that they have
worked hard all year to earn just because you didn’t
bother to take 5 minutes to file you MMR? Another
obvious consequence is that all of the membership reports generated by our worldwide headquarters will be
inaccurate because of incomplete data.
One simple but sure way to avoid being hounded
for your report or embarrassed by causing your fellow
Lions the loss of an award that they worked hard for is
this:
If you take that simple step, you’re covered for
the month. If you forget, if your computer crashes, if
the dog eats your iPad, no worries; your report has
been filed. If things should happen during the month –
add a member, drop a member, change club or member data - then just go back in and file the changes.
One of the district goals that we will be vigorously
pursuing is having ALL clubs submit their MMR on time
- EVERY month. Please make sure that you’re not the
snag in the creek that holds us back.
Good Luck to you all. - Ron Zeppieri, PCC, District
N GMT Coordinator [email protected]

Join Us for Diabetes Awareness Month
Every November, Lions organize projects to raise
awareness about the global diabetes epidemic and to
recognize World Diabetes Day (November 14). Begin
planning your diabetes service project today to ensure a
successful event; a Strides activity, free diabetes screenings at a community center, or a healthy eating event at
a local school are a few ideas to consider. For more ideas, see 25 Project Ideas for Diabetes Awareness and
Action.

I visited an eye bank in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, that
LCIF and Lions have supported for many years.
When I visited an eye hospital in Passo Fundo, Brazil, some children even surprised me with a song.
Dear Lions,
I am so proud of all the great work Lions around
the world are doing each and every day. Remember
to share your clubs' great work so Lions know
about the service you are providing in your community.
On a recent trip to
Peru, Brazil and Belize, I
had the honor of seeing
many Lions and Leos in
action. And they are doing great work!
Sincerely,
With help from a Lions Clubs International
(LCIF) seed grant, Leos near Lima are spearheading
an effort to provide safety, rehabilitation, job training and hope to young victims of human trafficking
and their babies. Lions Quest, LCIF's socialemotional learning program for children, is active in
30 schools in Peru!
