Take time to Relax! - Chiro

What to Expect
When you first meet with your therapist
she will talk with you about your condition and the
pain/symptoms you are experiencing. This will allow her to better understand where to focus the massage and gain you the greatest benefits. Being as
specific as possible with the therapist on what you
are feeling, how long the symptoms have been happening and frequency of them is most beneficial.
The therapist will ask you to remove clothing from
the area that will be worked on. The rest of your
body will be covered with a sheet and blanket for
comfort and privacy. Pressure of the massage will
vary depending on each patients comfort level. It is
OK to talk with your therapist about what you are
feeling and asking questions during the massage.
Being informed of what your feeling and why will
help you obtain a better mind/body connection and
will make the road to better health an easier one to
travel.

after tissue damage has resolved. Conditions associated with chronic pain: Arthritis, back/neck pain,
diabetes, fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis, sciatica, etc.
The therapist will create a treatment plan designed
for each patients needs and comfort level.
Full Body- Includes back/shoulders, hips, legs,
arms, neck, face/scalp. Abdominal massage can be
done upon request. Full body sessions are typically
a minimum of 60 minutes. Sessions of 90– 120
minutes can be done upon request and are usually
for those that require more focused work on a particular area.
Chair Massage– Sessions of 10-30 minutes done in
a specifically designed massage chair. The patient is
fully clothed and areas of focus are neck, back,
hips, arms and hands. If the patient is unable to sit
in the massage chair, sitting in a regular chair is just
as beneficial.
Focus Area– Have pain in the shoulders, neck,
arms, or the back? Focused massage can be done on
those areas alone in sessions of 15-30 minutes. This
allows the therapist to fully work out any tightness
and get you up and moving again quickly. Severe
cases may be seen 2-3 times a week for 30 min. a
session.

Fibromyalgia – Massage therapy is one of
the most beneficial treatments for Fibromyalgia pain and fatigue. Massage can reduce
pain, eliminate muscle stiffness, and relax
the mind & body. In addition, massage has
been proven to soothe the central nervous
system, increases the production of neurotransmitters that help with mental & physical
health, produces endorphins which reduce
pain, increase blood circulation, increase
range of motion, and reduce depression, anxiety & stress. The amount of pressure the
therapist uses is based on what each patient
can handle and will be adjusted to their comfort level and tolerance.
Sciatic – Sciatic pain is a tingling, numbness, and/or weakness along the sciatic
nerve. The sciatic nerve emerges through
deep muscles on the back of the hip and runs
down the back of the thigh and in some cases
to the foot and toes. Sciatica can be caused
by a tight muscle, the Piriformis, which entraps the sciatic nerve. Sciatica can also be
caused by a lumbar disc compressing on the
nerve, this can cause nerve damage if left
untreated. Massage therapy is very beneficial for those with sciatic pain. Massage
helps to ease muscle spasms and increase
oxygen flow to the muscles. Massage to the
hip (Gluteals and Piriformis) can be a little
intense. Communicating with the therapist
will ensure she works within your level of

delivery to the muscles, clearing of harmful byproducts, tension reduction in fascia, reduction of

to absorb nutrients.

aiding with sleep. Adolescents benefit by
helping them deal with stressors associated
with the changes life throws at them during
those crucial years. Helping with anxiety,

each persons comfort level and body type.

the spine and usually occurs in the mid-back (thoracic
spine) or lower back (lumbar spine). Uneven shoulders, prominent should blade, uneven waist, elevated
hips or a tendency to lean to one side may be an indication of Scoliosis. Massage therapy can help symptoms by addressing the restricted tissue around the
spinal column, mobilization of the fascia, and gentle
traction can enhance the mobility of the body and
bring balance to the spine.
Headache- Massage helps relieve headaches by easing
muscle tension, relieving muscle spasms, releasing
shortened muscles and relaxing tension held in the
muscles of the head, neck, and shoulders. When tension is released there is less pressure on the nerves and
blood circulation improves. Massage not only relaxes
the muscles but also reduces anxiety and mental stress.
Regular massage therapy treatments can help prevent
headaches and reduce overall stress.
