The purpose of the summer assignment is to help you review the algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus concepts you
will need in order to have success in your Calculus experience.
The assignment contains questions assessing topics THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY BEEN TAUGHT. If there are any
topics in the assignment that you have forgotten, work on them over the summer using any resources available
(working in groups, asking for help from family and/or friends, tutoring, internet sites, review workbooks,
independent study, etc.)
Do not wait until the end of the summer to look at this material. You should work on this assignment a littie at a
time. This will allow you to take the necessary time to review topics that you are having trouble remembering how
to do. You are responsible to review these concepts if you have not yet mastered them, and will be held
accountable for doing so.
Use Google—there are lots of Internet resources available! Here are a couple of websites that may be helpful;
www.CalcChat.com has worked-out solutions to odd-numbered exercises in Chapter P.

*CaIculus is an amazing subject. It is the mathematics of change and, therefore, the mathematics that underlies
much of our world. It incorporates everything you have learned so far in high school. To this day, calculus is
considered one of the greatest intellectual achievements that mankind has ever known. Calculus seeps into every
field of science, business and finance, all engineering fields, computer science and technology, and even sociology.
