In the movie Jean mentions that families in China are only allowed to have how many children? Research if you were absent or missed this. 4. What actually happens if they have more than one child? You must research this answer. 5. How was the trial of Jean different from what would happen to someone in our country who is on trial? You are basically researching what your legal rights are if you are accused of a crime. Once you have that, refer to your notes to compare what happened to Jean that was totally different from what would happen here in America. If you missed the trial on the final day of the movie, research the civil rights violations related to trials in China to help you answer this. 6. Describe four freedoms that you have in this country that are guaranteed to you in our Constitution. Hint---the first ten amendments to the Constitution also known as the Bill of Rights covers this. 7. Which of those freedoms is the most important to you and why? 8. If you were forced to give up one of those rights which would you choose and why? 9. In the movie when Jean got to see Gus her husband for a few minutes, he told her to remember that: “freedom does not come without sacrifice.” What do you believe he meant by this? 10. What are some examples you saw in the movie of the government treating people unfairly? If you missed this you can use details that you research on other civil rights violations in China not just the legal ones from question # 5 bullet #2. 11. What rights did you see taken from citizens in the Spirit of Liberty Moon that were similar to those taken from citizens when Shi Huang Di was China’s first emperor. You will need to research from your text book Shi Huang Di or the internet if you do not remember. If you have your China’s First Emperor DVD notes from earlier this quarter you can refer to those as well. 12. What do you believe that citizens should be able to do if they feel their government is not good for the people? Be specific. 13. At the end of the movie Jean mentioned to Monica that if what she had done--- standing up for what she believed was right--- helped one person it was worth her losing her life. Her husband also died in a work camp/prison for speaking out against the government. What do you think was the most important thing she hoped would change for others living in China? 14. Do you believe that most Americans today would be as willing to stand up for what is right as Jean was and others we have seen in other videos we have watched? Explain your answer.
