MCLA CHOICES
Volume 4, Issue 1
Ever felt really warm
when you are drinking.
There is an illusion of
increased heat because
alcohol causes the
capillaries to dilate and
fill with more warm
blood. Drinking alcohol
lowers rather than raises
your body temperature.

Make Good Choices to Make it a Safe Night
If you know that you are going to be drinking, eat some food
before and during when you drink.
Go to parties with friends and always have one friend remain
sober to keep and eye on everyone. Never leave a friend alone.
Accept only the drinks that you either pour yourself, or you can
watch someone make it; do not leave your drink unattended.
Space out your drinks with water. Water dilutes the alcohol and
also hydrates you.
BOOZE TRUTHS
* 56.1% of MCLA students
drink 3 or less drinks in an
average week.
Carbonated drinks increase the
absorption of alcohol into the
bloodstream.
* 17.5% of MCLA
students spend at
least 5 hours per
month in volunteer
work.
Common Alcohol Statement
The average brain is not fully developed until the age of 25.
1.) Drinking through a straw
gets you drunker faster.
—when you drink through a
straw you tend to drink faster,
therefore, alcohol will enter your
bloodstream at a faster rate
raising your BAC level in a
shorter time period.
Time is the only thing that can lower a person’s BAC level;
coffee, exercise, or cold showers will not assist in lowering
a person’s BAC level.
Having a “high tolerance” just means that a person may be
able to hide the behavioral cues that would otherwise tell
you they are intoxicated.
