Greek islands transiting Turkey
Despite the reduction in
crossings into Greece, 415
people died while trying to cross
to Greece by sea. In total across
the Mediterranean, 4,022 people
have lost their lives in 2016
Over 13,000 apprehensions at the
Greek and Bulgarian land borders
as of Nov 2016. Turkish forces in
October alone apprehended 2,197
and 274 people at the Greek and
Bulgarian borders respectively
748 people returned as part of
EU-Turkey Refugee Deal as of
early December. Among them
were Pakistanis (47%), Syrians
(12%), Algerians (10%) and
Afghans (10%)
As a result of 815
operations by Turkish
Coast Guards, 36,349

intercepted at sea as of
