Teacher’s Self Introduction: T says five words: Fish, Rabbit, Egg, Dog, Elephant
Ss spell the teacher’s name by identifying all beginning letters of the five words.
Students’ Names: same as step 1. WARM UP: 5 min
Goals: Listening / Speaking / Reading
Questions of Rhyming Words (see the attachment 1) 1. T puts 10 Answer Cards one by one on the blackboard and asks students to sound out.
2. T reads Question Cards of Rhyming Words. Ss listen and say answers according to the Answer Cards on the board. (attachment 1).
3. T models matching each pair of rhyming words on the blackboard.
Rhyming Words of the Poem “My Mom”
PRESENTATION:5min
Goal: Listening / Speaking / Reading
Rhyming Words of the Poem “My Mom”:
1. T puts the first set of 5 words in the Poem “My Mom” on the blackboard and asks students to sound out. (see attachment 2: kind /grow/ cry/ kiss/ care )
2. T shows the other set of 5 words in the same poem and students try to sound out (see attachment 2: mind / know/goodbye / miss / bear /).
3. T asks Ss to find out 5 pairs of rhyming words according to those 2 sets of words.
PRACTICE: 5 min Goal: Listening / Speaking / Reading
Matching Game: words of the poem: 10 rhyming words + 2 words: special / always 1. Students can read the cards on each column for 30 seconds (Columns 3 X 4).
2. T turns over all the cards.
3. Each team has one chance to choose two word cards and see if they rhyme with each other. If not, cards are turned over again. (Good Job vs. Oops, Try again)
4. Speed Drill: read all these 12 words as fast as possible.
The Poem “My Mom”
PRESENTATION:5min
Goal: Listening / Speaking / Reading / Writing
Poem Reading:
1. T reads aloud the poem. 2. T reads aloud the poem again and Ss fill in the blanks. (attachment 2­­­Rhyming words) =>check the answers (on the blackboard)
3. T explains the meaning of the poem.
PRACTICE: 5 min Goal: Listening / Reading
1. Choral Reading: T reads most part of the lines and Ss read rhyming words.
2. Ss repeat reading the poem and clap hands when reading rhyming words.
WRAP UP 10min
Goal: Listening / Reading Choral reading: group practice and review rhyming words
Optional activity: Readers Theater
Each group performs the poem orally in front of an audience.
Homework: Goals: Read / Write
