Christmas Fix - It
My second graders look forward to being detectives to find all
the mistakes in these sentences. Sometimes I make it a center for
students to work during Daily 5 Word Work. Other times, I use the
activity with the whole class at once. It helps to go over the “Check It!”
chart with students before they begin looking for errors. Model for
them how to look at a sentence and go step-by-step to check for
mistakes.
I have found it helpful for students to highlight the mistakes as
they find them, then write the sentence correctly on the recording
sheet. If you choose do it this way, you will need to copy sentence
sheets for all your students rather than cut apart the strips as you
would in a center.

Capitals: Is there a capital letter at the beginning
of the sentence? Are proper nouns capitalized?
Understanding:

Punctuation:
