“Serving in His Steps”
“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he
should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God
may be praised through Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 4:10-11
This week in chapel, those present enjoyed a “Hymn Sing”! Throughout the week, each class had students
select two or three of their favorite songs. In chapel, we were able to sing about 12 of our favorites and fill
the church with our voices. A special thank you to Mrs. Marschel who played the piano for all 12 songs
while we sang!
“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us
come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song.” Psalm 95:1-2
Once again, we had a duet shared while the offering was collected. Keena Williams and Sophia
Pohlmann did a wonderful job as they shared their voices as an offering to our God.
We are about halfway through this year’s apple butter cook. However, we need extra help on Saturday as
we stir and can from 11:00 am – cleanup. Currently, there are only eight people signed up during these
time slots. It takes at least seven people to remove the apple butter from a kettle and the remaining kettles
still need to be stirred. There are about 30 families that haven’t signed up for a shift yet – if you are one of
these families, I encourage you to simply stop in and help for a few hours on Saturday. Any volunteer time
would be greatly appreciated.
In addition to the cooking, we now have the task of selling the apple butter! Warm apple butter will be sold
throughout the day on Saturday, September 25th and at the school through September 30th. The prices have
remained the same as last year ($6.50 for a quart, $4.50 for a pint, and $3.00 for a half pint).
Afterwards, the apple butter will be available for purchase at Not Just Cut and Dried (available on October
1st) and Loaves and Fishes (available at their new location after November 1st).
Joyful Noise (5th – 8th grade choir) will be singing the Call to Worship for the 8:00 and 10:45 am worship
services at Immanuel next Sunday, October 3rd. Students who are members of Immanuel are encouraged to
be present each time we sing. Students who are members of other congregations or who have no church
home are encouraged to sing with us. The song that the students will be singing ends in two parts. In order
to have enough students to sing the two parts, the students are asked to sing at both services, if possible.
They will be singing at the beginning of the service and will not have to stay for the entire service twice.
The first “Grandparents Newsletter” for the 2010-2011 school year was sent out this past week. Did your
child’s grandparents receive it? If not, help them stay connected to ILS by signing them up to receive this
quarterly newsletter! Our goal is to keep grandparents (and other friends of Immanuel) more informed of
the great things that are happening at ILS. If you know of someone who would enjoy receiving these
mailings, please contact the school office.

SOMETHING NEW – Partners in Prayer – Every Friday morning the faculty at Immanuel begins their
day by spending some private prayer time in the church from 7:30 – 7:45 am. A slip of paper has listed
down “Prayer Suggestions” and they utilize these slips and their own known needs and concerns to privately
spend some time with their Lord. The 8th grade class follows this model every Friday morning as well from
8:00 – 8:15 am.
We would like to welcome all parents and members to join this Friday morning prayer initiative. Many of
us are busy – but why not take a few minutes to pray when you drop off your child on Friday? Perhaps
when you drive by, stop in the sanctuary and spend a moment or two in prayer for your child, their teacher
and class, or your own needs. It would be great to see people every Friday morning, coming in and out of
the sanctuary sharing time with their Lord. If it is before school, feel free to bring your child with you and
have them pray.
We will formally be starting this initiative for everyone on Friday, October 1st anytime after 7:00 am.
Coffee and donuts will also be available in the narthex, as we invite you to visit with others before or after
your prayer time. We look forward to seeing you on the 1st.
Get to Know Immanuel - Adult Instruction Class Begins Sunday, October 3rd at 9:30 am. Anyone
interested in learning more about the Lutheran Church and what we believe and teach is invited to attend
this new class. Likewise, anyone interested in formally becoming a member of Immanuel should take
advantage of this opportunity. At the conclusion of the class, participants will have the opportunity to
become members at Immanuel. If you would like to sign up for the class, please call the church office
“SERVING IN HIS STEPS, Loving, Giving, Caring!”
Are you praying for our school, students, teachers, parents and staff? We truly appreciate your prayers
as we grow together and in our Lord this new school year!
We thank everyone who has participated with financial support to date, and we invite others to
prayerfully consider a gift of any size to assist us in our education mission here at Immanuel. The
campaign has generated close to $12,000 to date. We again thank you in advance for your kindness,
prayers and support!
Youth News – Jr. High Youth will meet on Sunday, September 26th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, while Sr. High
Youth meet from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. The topic will be the “Struggle to Stay in Shape – Training for
Godliness”, based on 1 Timothy 4:1-16. Everyone is invited for fun, games, food and study.
We will also share information for a trip to “Sports Fusion” (Mini golf, Laser tag, Rock wall, jump shot
trampoline dodgeball and more) in Chesterfield on Sunday, Oct 10th from noon to 4:00 pm, for both groups.
We hope you can join us and bring a friend. Come today and hear how to save money on this youth outing!
Did you know that on Thursday, September 30th all students are able to participate in the “Flip Flop and
Red & Green Day”? This event is sponsored and run by the ILS Student Council and will raise money and
awareness about Operation Christmas Child. Each child that brings 50¢ to their teacher will be able to
participate! All money raised will go to help cover the cost of postage as we collect Christmas items to send
to children throughout the world. Each package will also have the Gospel message added to it. What a
great way to share the gift of Jesus with those who don’t know about Him!
The Primary Choir will sing in both worship services this Sunday, September 26. Children are not
expected to sing in both services. Choose the service time that best fits your schedule (8:00 or 10:45).
Children are to meet in the fourth grade classroom 15 minutes prior to service time. We will have a short
rehearsal and then walk to church. Our song will be the Call to Worship at the beginning of the service.
Children will then be excused to worship with their families for the remainder of the service.
I encourage you to make it a priority to worship with your children and give them the opportunity to
participate in the worship service. Hope to see you on Sunday! – Miss Schultz
