II. Course Title: Literary Criticism
Pre-requisite : Eng a, 1, 2, 12, 13, 14
III. Course Description:
This course deals with the approaches and methods used in critical
analysis of literary selections. It is also concerned with the critical acts, discussing
what work of art is, how and how well it becomes what it is, and how worthwhile it
is. The course also includes theories and methods of approaching literature, such
as deconstruction, feminism, Marxism, post-colonial theories. Likewise, it aims to
provide the student with critical tools necessary to read literary texts.
IV.
Course Objectives: At the end of the course, the students can:
A. Cognitive (Knowledge) :
1. Apply the theories and principles of literary criticism in analyzing
selections.
2. Compare and contrast the techniques involved in literary criticism.
3. Formulate their own literary theories that could be used in literary
criticism.
B. Affective (Attitude) :
1. Appreciate the beauty of literary selections and literary criticism
C. Psychomotor (Skills) :
1. Write a term paper applying the literary approaches
