NICC Celebrates 10th Anniversary
Two new programs:
UG Product Design and
PG Interaction Design
For their 10th Anniversary year
NICC has expanded the bouqet of
their programs - “Product Design
has always been taught at NICC
on a Postgraduate level. Many
Undergraduate students, however,
have shown interest in the
program while designing in the
domain of Packaging Design and
Experiential Design, so it was a
natural progression to intriduce
Product Design studies to students
in the Undergraduate programs.” says Aleksandra Rose, Dean,
NICC.
Interaction Design has been a part
of
Communication
Design
programs, which includes Web
and Mobile Application Design.
“The focus of digital technology is
moving quickly in the direction of
enabling greater control of every
aspect of our lives via internet and
mobile technology. Therefore, the
focus of Interaction Design has
shifted towards more effective
interaction with physical products
and systems.”- said Dr. Akash
Rose, Director, NICC. “What
makes the program unique is the
combination of studies that
focuses equally on human-centric
Design Thinking as well as
Technology. The program combination with MBA in Information
Systems brings an extra edge to
our students in the job market. ”
NICC students specializing in
domains of Product Design and
Interaction Design have already
been placed in the past with a
number of companies in India,
which
include
Cognizant
Technologies, RSA Division Of

The Unique Formula
National Qualification:
Right from its inception in 2005,
NICC decided on a formula which
simultaneously provides both a
traditional education (with a UGC
Degree) and an Internationally
respected, industry-guided careerspecific Diploma structure. Such a
structure ensures a two-pronged gain.
NICC's National segment operates in
collaboration with its sister Education Trust's 'Universal College'.
Students of NICC Twinning and
Combination programs are automatically under this Education Trust as
well as the NICC International Trust.
The Degrees given are issued by
Bharathiyar University duly recognized by UGC. The National Degree
confers the status of Graduate /
Postgraduate in terms of the National
Education System.

The program includes studies in 3
major domains - Photography, Film

these domains in the first three years,
and opt for specialization in one of
them in the fourth year. This structure
enables students to work in a
spectrum of industries, and makes
them specialists in the preferred

the world of corporate communication and advertising. They can also
choose and be guided to successful

with Otago Polytech,
New Zealand
Exchange programs during one’s
education are a great way to travel
the world and experience different
cultures and education systems.
In December, NICC signed an
Exchange Program agreement with
the renowned Dunedin School of
Art, a division of Otago Polytechnic
in New Zealand. The agreement
enables students of both institutions
to apply for a semester term to be
spent at the host institution, attend
classes and work on projects without
incurring additional costs for tuition
fees. Students can apply for
exchange programs in domains of
Photography, Art, Digital Design and
Animation studies.

envisioning a story and creating a
story-board, as well as making the
assets (mini stage sets, characters,

then decide on choice of photographic lenses and techniques to
shoot the motion-graphic scenes they
create, combine multiple frames in

sound tracks. In other words, knowledge and skills in art, photography,

project with a specific deliverable.
Similarly, other three projects during
the year combine different creative
disciplines to produce projects in
graphic design, product design, and
moving media.
These projects are a great experience
for students since they can clearly
assess their own progression,
strengths and weaknesses and decide
which set of creative disciplines they
enjoy more and suit them better. The
experience with each project also
provides a platform for students to
take up a specific stream – product
design, communication design or
visual arts for their second third and
fourth year - the program streams
conducted by NICC on the undergraduate level.
It is these projects that allow students
to carve out unique paths in their
education, create a portfolio of
tangible and meaningful work, and
ultimately reach their dream professions by building on their passion,
knowledge and skills.
NICC is the first institution in
India to deliver a comprehensive

High-End 3D platform, “Lightwave”. This was the program used
by Rob Powers, in the groundbreaking film ‘Avatar’. Mr.Powers
was one of the original "Malibu
Five" Avatar concept design team
and the first CG artist to join James
Cameron’s team as Animation
Technical Director for the film. He
subsequently became President of
the Lightwave Group. Lightwave
is the specialist’s platform for SFX
and VFX. It is used extensively for
virtually every form of Motion
Graphics as well as complex
Mechanical, Interior, Furniture,
Packaging, Product and Appliance
Design. The NICC Postgraduate
3D program includes all of the
above as well as creation of assets
for Game Design, Modeling,
Texturing, Rigging & Animation,
Real-World Dynamic Simulation,
and the application of this amazing
program to the creation of
spectacular Illustration and photoreal walkthroughs and print -media

This takes 3D out of the realm of
‘only for animation’ and creates
valuable professionals who can
apply this to every field from
Real-Estate Pre-Visualization to
Electro-Mechanical

The program also covers the
creation of Stereolithographic

3D-Printing machines for prototyping and production.

Certified Awesomness: NICC Students celebrating their graduation
NICC’s Undergraduate Twinning Programs: Design is
A foundation that nurtures creativity and the Future
lets you build your future - your own way
Many students, after completing their
school education, are aware that they
have the “creative spark” and have a
strong inclination towards creative
thinking. They are, however, often
unaware of the creative domains
which provide respected, stable
careers. It is even more so with
parents, who perhaps never had the
opportunity to be connected with
Design and related creative fields.
Students, therefore, need a platform
to familiarize them with the different
creative disciplines and opportunities. At NICC the first academic year
of undergraduate programs is exactly
that platform which serves as the
foundation-laying period. Students
are introduced to photography,
graphic design, art, filmmaking,
modeling and animation, game
design, print design, material studies.
All of these disciplines are addressed
not merely in theory, but equally in
terms of practical projects and
assignments, so that students learn
how to think creatively as well as to
convert their ideas into tangible
results.
