A few weeks ago I was invited to Brill Communications Home For the Holidays Preview!
I had a super busy day full of previews and brought along my beautiful big brown bag to
carry everything in..sadly that was the last time I was able to use it... it completely
destroyed on this hot and busy day(i.e. the straps broke completely off from being too
heavy and I had to hold it funny).
The first preview of the day was Home for the Holidays! I always get excited since I get
to see all the upcoming fun things at Addition Elle!!! I was not disappointed instead, I felt
the need for winter to be here already! I've been really impressed with Addition Elle for
the past year, I went from legitimately never shopping there, to becoming a platinum
member. I felt the need to take all these lovely pieces home! A ton of other
brands/companies were there as well including Miyu Beauty(review coming soon♥),
Softlips, Tristan, Rimowa, Nespresso, Calgon, Conair(True Glow review coming
soon), Josephson Opticians, and a few others!

By now every parent has heard the term “Super Lice” (shudder). But before you reach for the razor,
these easy prevention tricks may help keep your child’s head lice-free this year.
Sharing isn't always caring.
Lice are spread through direct head-to-head contact so step one is to avoid spreading them in the
first place. And although we may be sending mixed messages about NOT sharing (since that’s all
we’ve focused on since birth) it’s probably worth it when it comes to the common culprits like
hairbrushes, hats and helmets (and the lesser known ones like towels and scarves).
An ounce of prevention.
Although the jury is still out on preventative measures for lice, we’re taking all the help we can get.
And products like Lice Shield Detangling Spray and eco.kid Prevent Daily shampoo claim to
be deterrents and are herbal and safe for daily use (so we don’t see the harm with a spritz here and a
wash there that may keep the little critters at bay).
Get familiar with up-dos.
Lice can’t fly or jump so if the hair is contained--like in a bun or braid--it would be a lot harder to
spread. Even a spray of hairspray to keep strands close to their head might be your savior this year.
(Better learn how to French braid, stat.)
Head-check regularly.
Checking your child’s hairline and scalp regularly (once a week or even more) could mean the
difference between finding a problem early on, and fixing it quickly before it gets out of hand.

My biggest concern was people noticing that I had
press on nails, but these were so thin and covered my
nail so perfectly nobody could tell. I chose the French
manicure look so they were clean and short. I was also
worried about the removal process – afraid of how it
would affect my real nails – but when it was time to
take them off, they just peeled off easily and didn’t
affect my real nails in any way.
Honestly, these are a perfect quick fix when you don’t
have time to do your own manicure. I am going to out
to buy a bunch so I never have nasty nails again!

Hello les filles ! Il y a maintenant plus de 3 mois, je teste pour vous sans relâche des nouveautés sur le marché, afin de répondre à une
question qui nous hante toutes (surtout moi !) : est-ce qu’on peut réussir une belle manucure gel à la maison ou faut-il absolument réserver
en salon ? C’est la tendance immanquable en cosmétiques dernièrement, toutes les compagnies sortent leur vernis gel (avec ou sans
machine) et promettent des résultats très tentants ! Mais qu’en est-il vraiment ? Quels produits ou machines fonctionnent réellement ?

Je n’ai jamais eu de manucure gel en salon. Chaque fois que mes copines en font je suis en extase car la différence avec du vernis régulier se
voit : le gel fait plus épais, plus brillant, mais surtout, il tient plus longtemps. C’est super pratique de partir en vacances 2 semaines et ne
pas avoir à se soucier 1 seule fois de ses ongles. Avec la majorité de mes vernis qui s’écaillent après 2 jours, j’avais vraiment envie de trouver
une alternative abordable et facile à faire à la maison… qui tient !
Mais j’en suis venue à une conclusion après tous ces tests : le mot ‘’GEL’’ a été un peu trop utilisé en marketing pour vendre. Pour certaines
compagnies, le mot gel signifie seulement brillance, tandis que pour d’autres c’est seulement longue-tenue. Bien que la tenue soit
principalement ce que je recherche dans ce type de vernis, j’aime aussi beaucoup la brillance et l’épaisseur qu’ils procurent aux ongles, donc
je voulais idéalement trouvé les 3 avantages dans une même bouteille ! Mon test n’a pas été 100% concluant, mais je vous laisse tout de
même lire mes notes sur la machine Fuse, la machine Sensationails, les vernis Extraordinaire Gel-Laque 1-2-3 de L’Oréal et les Miracle Gel
de Sally Hansen.

Hey friends!
Although it’s a million degrees outside where I live, I love fall colors.
Grad school and work are keeping me super busy so I feel like I need
to start preparing my fall stash, or it’s all going to pass me by.
I was particularly inspired by Self Magazine’s Fresh for Fall Trends
in their September issue. However, I wasn’t feeling like paying $34
for each makeup item.
And you know how I roll. So here are some of my favorite fall
trends, on a budget
This blush is more of a softer pink than hot
pink, but the color is very pigmented and
easy to blend, which helps in getting that
flushed look
WetnWild Blush in Heather Silk
Urban Night and Bordeaux Boulevard are lovely berry shades
learning towards a reddish berry and plummy purple,
respectively. Just a warning the Bordeaux shade is pretty
vampy, so if that’s not your bag, stick with Urban Night.

I had been hunting down the Wet N’ Wild Limited Edition Fall
Matte Lipsticks, and I found them in a random Fergie display at
my local Walgreens! I know I mentioned two of them in my
Fall Trends post, but I would be remiss if I didn’t share more of

Makeup Product of the Week: Wet N’ Wild
Limited Edition Fall Matte Lipsticks
I love matte lipsticks this time of year, so I was super
excited to hear about these $2 limited editions to the
Wet N’ Wild line.
The colors are all very pigmented and have a great
lasting time. On the darker shades, there is even a bit of
stain that stays behind. They are also very lightweight, so
I don’t have any problems with drying, which is great
with matte lipsticks.

In this series, we’re going to breakdown some internet rumors and myths regarding dupes!
On today’s show: Urban Decay’s Naked Palette VS. WetnWild’s Walking on Eggshells!
Why Dupe or No Dupe?
When I was getting into makeup, (around the same time I started writing my thesis), I
noticed there were lots of graphics on Pinterest claiming much cheaper “dupes” to
expensive products.
Some of these claims were pretty legit, and I discovered some great, affordable products
that way.
And unfortunately, some of them were completely wrong, or at the very least not a true
dupe. And I wound up with a bunch of crap that I had to pawn off on my friends. (Sorry,
friends!)
So I’m hoping this little mini-series can help you get some real information on whether a
product is a true dupe or not.
Urban Decay VS. Wet n’ Wild
First, everyone and their mother has a palette they’re trying to write off as a dupe for
Urban Decay’s Naked Palette. (Literally. I think even my own mother is trying to sell a
palette called Bare Nude or something. It’s pervasive).
It’s not surprising given the Naked palettes’ success. Unfortunately, many of these
“dupes” are really just chalky brown and gold shadows crammed in some palette with a
title that’s a synonym for Naked.
But some are actually pretty awesome.
I have yet to find a complete dupe for the Naked Palette, but WetnWild’s Walking on
Eggshells Trio is rumored to be pretty close to Sin, Virgin, and Naked.
Let’s take a look
The swatches are fairly similar, if anything, the Wetn’Wild Walking on Eggshells shadows
actually seem to be more pigmented.
There are some slight differences. Sin and Virgin are a bit darker, and Naked is more
matte. But overall, you could probably trick your basic person on the street into thinking
you were wearing UD Naked shades if you really wanted to. (Why you are tricking
people, I don’t know. I don’t judge, OK?)
Conclusion:Pretty Good Dupe
While not a perfect dupe, this is really close. I almost want to say I like the Wetn’Wild
shades a bit better, since they are brighter on my skin.
Also, when you compare prices with Walking on Eggshells at about $3 and Naked at $54,
Wetn’Wild’s trio starts to look even better. Sure, you get 9 more shades with Naked, but
if you just want a taste of nudes, this Wetn’Wild Palette is a bargain at $3.

Floaty, romantic fabrics and fresh-faced makeup

My first impressions of beauty came from
ballerinas. When I started classes at age 3, all I
wanted was to be like the bun-headed, rosycheeked dancers that I saw on posters in the dance
studio. It wasn’t just their athletic ability that I
coveted: it was their air of elegance and grace.
Across from the foot of my bed was a framed
image of Karen Kain, enveloped in a pile of white
tulle, with rosy cheeks and defined eyes. That was
what beauty looked like to me. It was soft,
feminine, and unabashedly romantic.
Despite the fashion world’s love for normcore as of
late, designers and makeup artists alike seem
unwilling to let go of the romance altogether:
shows like Ralph Lauren showcased ethereal, lightas-air frocks in blush pinks while models at
Marchesa, Altuzarra, and Roberto Cavalli all wore
off-duty dancer buns.
For your own ballerina look, unless you’re going for a stage-ready vibe, keep your hair nonchalant. Using your
fingers instead of a comb to rake your hair back into a bun makes the finished look less slicked-back and more
casual. When it comes to makeup, think pink: an all over flush (rosy cheeks and petal-hued lips) evokes a justfinished-rehearsal vibe.

Last night I went to the Wet n Wild launch of their new Steal the Look app – an app that lets you take a photo of any
picture or any one and recreate their look with Wet n Wild products. It’s a fun app and works very well because Wet n Wild
has a lot of colour.
Which is why I went. No, not for the free product but because I have a soft spot in my heart for this cheap and very
cheerful brand. It was one of the few drugstore lines that carried colours that looked good on my skin.
Let’s go back nearly 20 years. I was in Toronto on vacation, on my way to the MAC store to buy my first Studio Fix powder.
I had read that MAC was a line that catered to all skin colours and I was anxious to buy something from them that I didn’t
have to mix.
It was difficult to find drugstore or department store products that catered to a wide range of skin tones. There was
Fashion Flair and Iman had not launched her cosmetics line as yet. Covergirl, Maybelline and Revlon didn’t have the diverse
range of shades that you find these days. For many, the alternative was to mix two or more foundations. For those who
remember, makeup artist Way Bandy used to mixed multiple foundations (known as ‘base’ in those days) to create a
foundation that would match Iman’s skin. This was in 1975 and while things got a little better in the 80s, diversity in
cosmetics wasn’t quite there yet.
But back to MAC, I walked out of there with my first compact of Studio Fix in NC35 and I have been buying it ever since.
And yes, I bought the Spice Lipliner.
So why mention MAC in context with Wet n Wild? It’s because MAC’s Studio Fix was expensive at nearly $30, which was a
lot of money in those days and for many, still is. Clearly it’s not any more in comparison to hundred-dollar-plus foundations
but that was a lot of money for a teenager to spend on powder.
I did my own version of high-low thanks to the perfect lip pencil from Wet n Wild. It was red
and it went with nearly every single red, dark pink or berry-coloured lipstick I owned. I would
also apply it, put a little clear lip balm and head out, knowing I looked done. Maybe it was
Brandy Wine? I can’t remember the name of the pencil but I bought it for years when it was
less than a dollar or two. It went with my skin colour – I didn’t have to deal with the horrible,
frosty pinks and oranges that dominated the drugstore market.
So when Wet n Wild had their event tonight I went to revisit the line and to see if it was still as
cheerful and diverse as I remember it all those years ago. It was – great reds, berry and nudes
in easy-to-apply crayons.
I still buy MAC and I’m currently heavily rotating NARS but I think I’ll see if I can find Brandy
Wine and add it and other Wet n Wild products back into my make-up kit.
