This week in Reception
Within our Animal topic we have been researching different
animals and their characteristics. We have been thinking about
similarities and differences between different animals eg their
appearance, whether they come from an egg, what they eat and where
they live. The children made beautiful pictures of their chosen animal
showing great cutting skills and creativity. Some children made animal
puppets by adding lolly sticks and put on a puppet show for their
friends.
In maths we have been recalling the names of 3d shapes. To
support this learning maybe you can look around your home or whilst
out shopping to find cylinders, cubes, cuboids and spheres with your
child. We have also been doubling and halving numbers.
Phonics taught this last half term includes the letter sounds:
ai (wait), oo (book, moon), ee (bee), ch (chin), sh
(ship), th (then), ar (car), igh (light), oa (goat), ng
(ring), qu (queen).
If you see any of the above sounds within the environment or even on
food boxes at home point them out to your child to see if they can
read the word. This will help embed their learning.
Best Wishes
