Friends of St. Matthew have very generously offered a $70,000
matching gift incentive. The match has been established on a 2 for 1
basis. That means St. Matthew, as a congregation, needs to raise
$35,000 to receive the $70,000. This would give a total influx of
$105,000 to our 2011-12 budget. Our fiscal budget is from July 1,
2011, through June 30, 2012. Our first goal is to raise $17,500 by the
end of December 2011. The $35,000 that is needed to be given by our
members must be given in addition to our regular offerings. To do
otherwise would defeat the purpose and intent of the match. Please
mark the face of your offering envelope with an FFF on the second
line and the amount you are adding beyond your regular general fund
offering. We thank God for this extremely generous offer. Please watch
the back of the Sunday bulletin to see the progress of our efforts.
Cookie Exchange All families are invited to join us 12/3 at
10:30a for a Christmas cookie exchange. Bring 5 dozen of
your favorite cookie and take home 5 dozen! Please bring
your own bowls or baggies. More info to follow!
Church Christmas Decorating Please join us next Sat., 12/3
@9am to decorate the church for Christmas. We will put up
trees, garland, & banners. Light refreshments served. See
you there!
Lutheran High Westland “Winter Wonderland” Arts &
Crafts Show 12/2 & 12/3, 9-4p.
Giggles & Smiles Can you hear them across the ocean?
Probably not, but we can be sure there are 161 children
receiving shoe boxes full of fun and the treasure of learning
of God's greatest gift from St. Matthew families (another 9
million boxes from Christians around the world). Let our
prayer now be that these small gifts open hearts to receive the
most wonderful gift of all-JESUS- “Thanks be to God for
His indescribable gift.” To all who contributed their time and
gifts to Operation Christmas Child and to our Thrivent
partners, thank you and blessed Christmastime!

Thank you to everyone who supports our school ministry! We appreciate all of our volunteers who contribute in so
many ways!
This week the preschool class learned about the letter D and the number six. They made dot art, turkeys and praise
place mats. Their bible lesson was coming to celebrate and being thankful.
The kindergarten class made turkey cookies and their own turkey puzzle. They are learning about Zachariah in religion.
First graders led chapel by sharing what they are thankful for and telling the story of Jacob’s thankfulness even through
his trials. They gave thanks for the birth of a healthy baby sister for Colin Cabrera.
The second grade continued their study of the commandments in religion and memory. We learned about the Pilgrims,
Mayflower, Native Americans, and how Thanksgiving became a national holiday. Our reading story was another one
about animal camouflage. God's creative design is mind boggling!
The third graders are writing personal narratives using the writings of Patricia Polacco as a model. They heard several
stories she wrote about her childhood. Did you know she learned how to catch lightning in a jar?
The fourth graders read a story about having pride in their community. Check out the hard work they did weeding the
garden between the buildings.
The fifth through eighth grade reviewed the steps of the scientific method this week in preparation for their upcoming
science fair projects.
The sixth grade is continuing their discussion on faith. They read the Athanasian Creed which was written in response to
heresy about the Trinity. They learned that those things that we have difficulty understanding can help to strengthen our
faith. How wonderful it is that we are saved by grace alone and do not need to depend on our good works to earn our
way into heaven.
The seventh and eighth grade class won the school Scrip contest. Without hesitation, the class wanted to use the money
to buy toys for Operation Christmas Child and our food pantry.
