Scallywags Ref: See My Kick Week One Write ups Scallywags 2– Empire Strikes Back 1 By Jamie Lutz Booowhoooop is back, for our 14th season. Space has come out of retirement for what should be a promising season. And what better way to start the season with a win! Scallywags defense came out strong to start the 1st with a 1,2,3 inning then, to follow up with and aggressive offense scoreing 2 runs in the bottom on the 1st and leaving 2 runners on base. 2nd inning defense again keeping it to short inning with only one person reaching 1st from empire. 3rd &4th innings Scallywags bottom half of the line up had some 1st night back jitters and weren't able to get base, the defense was still able to hold empire to 1,2,3 innings. 5th inning top of empires line up with some great placed kicks and heads up base running they were able to score a run, then an epic play from Nick in left catching the pop up and running down the base runner who tagged at 3rd base to end the inning! Bottom 5 Scallywags offense loaded the bases, but with some great catches from empire were unable to drive the runners in. 6th inning Scallywags defense again only allowed one kicker to reach 1st base. Shout out to Chelsey,DOC & Joe for going 2 for 2 and of defense big catches from Vin rock, Bro Dan, Andrew & Balls of Fury 0 Angry Thursdays 12 By Mike By Michael Franz We can only go up from here!" as stated by one of our Balls of Fury players after last weeks defeat by Angry Thursday's 12-0. However, we did not let the shutout bring our team spirit down. At the end of the game our team was smiling and laughing and having a great time. We gathered at Mahoney's afterwards and even learned some new "strategy" moves from the opposing team in the bathroom. Now that we have the loss behind us (and some practice in) we are ready to move forward and next week kick that ball with FURY! It seems that there are mixed feeling around the league whether or not Angry is still the same Angry. Well.....Don't make us Angry....you wouldn't like us when we're Angry. Coming off a 3 season hiatus many thought we would be rusty, old, and washed up. I'd say none of that. A convincing 12-0 victory over Balls of Fury was just what this team needed to get back into the "kick" of things. The pitching was there, the Defense was there, and even the newer players contributed. Play of the game, and likely season went to Rowland and Taylor on an amazing sliding kick save my Rowland to keep the ball in the air, and accurate enough, for Taylor to make the catch and the out. That just proves that there is no rust on anybody here. Hats off to Balls of Fury. They will be a fun team when anyone goes to play them this year GMOT seem a little bare? You Can't Kick With Us is back with over half the team new to us. Our new teammates have seemed to pick up the rules quickly and have made our team stronger. We started our season off taking the plate against We're Huge in Japan, our pickup game teammates. Dane made his official WAKA debut with a kick getting him on base. Unfortunately, he was the only one to get on and the third out was made before he could cross the plate. Despite outs made by Dane, Andy, and Stephen, Japan was able to score 2 runs. Erica was our 2nd player to get on base but Japan didn't allow a run or any other kickers to get on. YCKWU'S Justin, Melissa, and Stephen made sure Japan didn't score any runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Our kickers were just not good enough in the 3rd and 4th innings getting out 1-2-3 both times. Japan was popping them up in both those innings as well allowing us to show our catching skills. We may have walked one player in the bottom of the 4th but I wasn't paying attention. The top of our lineup was back at it in the top of the 5th. Our first 4 players were able to get on but Japan prevented much movement. We gave up 1 more run in the bottom of the 5th. 1-2-3 outs and the game was over. Japan won 3 - nothing. MVP goes to Dane for going 2 for 2 at the plate and making every play that went his way. LVP to the beer cart for not stopping at our field once. This better not be a sign of things to come this season. Japan is back! We’ve got a few new people to the squad, but they picked up the game quickly and helped lead us to victory. Throughout the game Japan’s defense was solid, especially with Bill making phenomenal catches and Andy as usual with his graceful moves at short. Goat’s wicked pitching made it hard for You Can’t Kick with Us to place their kicks. Japan was able to score 3 thanks to smart base running by James, Goat, and Rachel. Japan is merely shaking the dust off of the cleats and is ready to take on the New WAKA Order. Pitches Be Trippin’ 3 vs Fire It Up! 9 By Ryan Miller So opening week Pitches be Trippin' took on a strong looking Fire It Up. We didn't know what to expect but we did know that we had our hands full! Being that most of our team is new we were excited to see what we can do versus the defending champs. Behind Justin's great pitches that be trippin' we only lost 8-3. We realized we have some powerful kickers on our squad that connected for great kicks to get on base, strong/smart base runners and a pretty solid defense that held us in the game. Play of the game goes to Verlaine with his insane full speed running Willie May's style catch in the 3rd inning. All I can say is that we are one strong team and that we are going to be one of the top contenders! GO PBT! Deez Nutz 1– NWO 5 By Heather Logan C'mon, we put up a good fight in the first game this season with a fairly new team. Evan cleared the fence giving deez nuts our first home run and only run for the game. Maybe we would have had two home runs if Clerc didn't miss our season opener bc of a bad back, aka fear of missing the ranger playoff game. While it may look like a blowout, a sketchy call did result in additional run, but in deez nuts fashion we let it go - we really are just here to have fun, drink beer, and escape everyday life. Shout out to two of our newbies - Vinny who had a diving front flip catch and Jackie who also had an important catch in right center. Most importantly: a hand for the beer cart girls who not only came to the upper field once, twice, but three times AND the best cheering section a team can have (Margie, Heather, and the kids!)
