This Week’s Movement Group Theme: Turkeys Today we had fun learning about turkeys. We began by singing songs about turkeys (one is listed below), and then did the Turkey Hokey Pokey. We pretended to “stuff” a turkey by crumbling newspaper and throwing it into a pretend turkey. After, we created a pretend pumpkin pie in which we were the filling and our therapists gave us deep pressure by rolling a giant pin over our bodies! We then used scooter boards to pin feathers on the turkey. All together, we made a turkey out of Mat Man pieces (modeled after Handwriting Without Tears), then made a really neat turkey! It was a fun day at school! To practice at home we can: Sing the Thanksgiving Turkey song (Sung to Are You Sleeping?): Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Here it comes, here it comes. Turkey on the table, turkey on the table. Mmm-good, mmm-good. Cornbread muffins, chestnut stuffing, Pumpkin pie, ten feet high. We were so much thinner, before we came to dinner. Me-oh-my, me-oh-my! Do the “Turkey Hokey Pokey” using different body parts (such as wing, foot, and head) You put your wing in, You take your wing out. You put your wing in And you shake it all about. You do the Turkey Pokey and you turn yourself around. Turkeys all over the town! Gobble gobble! Make Pumpkin Pie Pudding! Have your child mix two tablespoons pumpkin pie filling, two tablespoons marshmallow crème, and one tablespoon whipped topping. If able, enjoy it as a snack! If not, use it as paint or for tabletop, sensory play. Prepared by the Physical Therapists of the Bucks County Intermediate Unit Early Childhood Services
