Philosophy
Language is our connection to our community and to the world. Through language we identify the world
around, express our concerns and dreams, and share our experiences and ideas. The ability to communicate in a
second language increases the opportunities to interact with other people and to understand other cultures.
Course Description
This class is designed to create and foster an interest in foreign language study. As second year
Spanish learners, students will continue to learn and use everyday vocabulary terms in the target
language in order to communicate successfully with other learners and native speakers of Spanish.
The selection of vocabulary will continue to reflect the frequency with which they occur in real-life
situations. Students will also continue to practice verbs in the present tense and expand grammar
concepts to include the past, future, and conditional tenses as well. The intent of the World Language
Essential Standards is that a comprehensive set of language skills will be developed and used for
effective communication. These skills are known nationally as the 5 C’s or Communication, Culture,
Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. Within the World Language Essential Standards,
Communication has been broken down into three modes of Communication, which in turn comprise
three of the four essential standards.
Interpersonal Communication: Person- to –Person
Interpretive Communication: Listening and Reading
Presentational Communication: Speaking and Writing
