•
1 1/2 cups flour
3/4 cups salt
3 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 1/2 tablespoons oil
1 1/2 cups water
Rubber gloves
Food coloring; assorted colors
Scented oils or extracts
Air-tight containers
Adult supervision
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Combine flour, salt, cream of tartar, oil and water in a large pot (be sure it’s large
since this recipe makes a good amount of dough!)
2. Stir the mixture constantly with a wooden spoon over low to medium heat until
the dough begins to form a ball and pulls away from the sides. (It’s going to get
more difficult to stir as the clay thickens.) Do not overcook.
3. As soon as the dough is cool enough to work, begin kneading it with your hands
until you achieve a soft, modeling clay consistency.
4. Knead in colors and scents or extracts, if desired. Use rubber gloves to prevent
hands from getting stained.
5. Be sure to store the dough in air-tight containers to prevent it from drying out.
