KS1/KS2 Associate Moderator Recruitment 2017

CONFIDENTIAL
INVITATION FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
Associate Moderators for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2
We would like to offer teachers with the relevant skills and experience the opportunity to be
trained as associate moderators. Associate moderators will work alongside experienced
local authority moderators to support moderation workshops and also in their partnerships to
help teachers to audit work samples, to standardise their assessments, to make accurate
interim assessments of what children demonstrate they can do and to identify areas for
improvement. They will not be asked to make summative judgements about standards.
Depending on the needs of the moderation schedule and evidence of good practice, some
associate moderators may be asked to be involved in statutory external moderation. A
contribution towards release costs will be paid in such circumstances.
We are working to develop a scheme whereby final assessments in schools which are not
externally moderated could be quality assured by associate moderators, funded by BPSI
hours. Associate moderators supporting partnership work could be funded through trading of
BPSI hours agreed within the partnership.
If you, as headteacher, would like to propose a teacher to become an associate moderator,
please would you return the completed expression of interest form and return to John
Paxton by 5pm on Friday 18 November. Part one of the form is to be completed by the
teacher.
Priority will be given to teachers from schools which do not currently have an LA moderator
on their staff.
Associate moderators should be able to make a minimum commitment of two days for
training and moderator meetings
