The program goal this year is to focus on the aging “baby boomers” and our vulnerable older adults who reside not only in long term care settings but also in the community. We are anticipating the growing number of elderly patients to bring our health care system to the breaking point unless we can protect this population from infection and chronic afflictions. The majority of reported healthcare-associated infections and resistant organisms occur in older adults. Infection Preventionists will benefit from learning more about the aging population in an evolving health care system with finite resources.
