part 1.s certa i n ly modern) and measures six feet ten inches in
height and t hre e feet two ar.d a half inches in width.

and three ni ches in each of the sidewalls of the choir. Gilt
shtues st ood in these nIches according to tr9.di t lon, and tho
pre sent gui de or keeper of the rock asserts that he saw some
of t hem in g ood preservation. The floor over tha nave rests
on seven ar ches wh 1 ch are perfectly semi c 1 rcular. and is about
twenty four feet in height from the level of the floor.

The we st gable contains a rcundhea1ed doorway which communicates with the great Cathed ral but it is not original and it
1s no w imposs i ble to ascertain whetber t here was an original
doorway he re or not.
There were three semi-circular headed windows on the same
gahle but th ey are now bui 1 t up except the middle one. which
opened about ten years since by Archdeacon Cotton.
