Day 1: Chambersburg, PA
Today we depart Ottawa, crossing over the 1000 Islands Bridge and continuing through
Upper New York State and Pennsylvania to Chambersburg, for our overnight stay at
the Holiday Inn Express, or similar.
Day 2: To Virginia Beach, VA
Our travels today continue onto Virginia Beach. After a late afternoon check-in at the Holiday
Inn and Suites North Beach, or similar, we will enjoy dinner at Rockafellers, a local’s
favorite restaurant with a casual beach vibe. (B,D)
Day 3: Virginia Beach & Norfolk, VA
Following breakfast at the hotel, we will visit one of Virginia Beach’s most revered attractions,
the Military Aviation Museum, home to one of the largest private collections of
World War II and Korean War era fighters, bombers, trainers and seaplanes in the world.
Then, we will savour an authentic Southern-style lunch. Enjoy beautiful views of the
Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay as we learn about the history of Virginia’s largest
city and experience Virginia Beach. See the First Landing Cross at Cape Henry
and the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse. Following our tour enjoy some leisure time in
the afternoon relaxing at the hotel, dipping your toes in the beautiful waters of the Atlantic
Ocean or strolling along the picturesque boardwalk. This evening, we head to Norfolk.
View the stately homes along the Hague, old St. Paul’s Church, the Moses
Myers House, the Chrysler Museum of Art, MacArthur Memorial, the historic
Freemason District, Nauticus, a maritime centre, the Battleship Wisconsin, the
restored water-front area, as well as many other points of interest. Tonight we will
have a delicious dinner at the charming Freemason Abbey Restaurant, housed in
a 135-year-old renovated church. (B,L,D)
Day 4: Local Touring on the Eastern Shore, VA
Today we will spend the day on the picturesque Eastern Shore. Enjoy a scenic drive across
one of the seven engineering wonders of the modern world, the Chesapeake Bay
Bridge Tunnel. Our local guide will provide interesting historical commentary along
the 23-mile masterpiece of bridges and tunnels. We will arrive in the charming town of
Cape Charles and stroll historic Mason Avenue with time to shop on your own. Relax
over a seafood lunch at the Island House restaurant. After lunch, we will arrive at
Cherrystone Aqua Farms for a hands-on tour viewing oysters and clams in their natural
water habitat. We will continue up the coast to visit Chatham Vineyards before returning
to the hotel. Once back at the Beach, enjoy dinner tonight on your own. (B,L)
Day 5: Norfolk Touring, VA
Today we will tour the Norfolk Naval Base, which is part of Naval Station Norfolk
- the largest naval installation in the world. We will continue to downtown Norfolk for a visit to
Nauticus, a unique and thriving campus of visitor attractions that explores the economic, naval
and natural powers of the sea. Enjoy lunch on your own at the Waterside District, Norfolk’s
unique waterfront festival marketplace located on the scenic Elizabeth River. Then we will board
the Victory Rover for a cruise through the bustling Hampton Roads Harbor,
one of the largest in the world. Enjoy fascinating and entertaining commentary during the two-hour
excursion aboard this naval themed vessel. Next, we will stop at Doumar’s, home of the
world’s first ice cream cone machine that was created at the World’s Fair of 1904. Tonight enjoy
a delicious farewell dinner with a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean. (B,D)
Day 6: Norfolk, VA/Chambersburg, PA
This morning we depart for the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, which dates back to
1938 and is considered a premiere example of horticultural excellence. Then we bid farewell
to the state of Virginia and journey to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania where
we will overnight at the Holiday Inn Express, or similar. (B)
Day 7: Ottawa, ON
It’s homeward bound with many fond memories of your unforgettable
Virgina Beach getaway. (B)
