Greetings Gates Families!
As always, we will not be accepting requests for teachers for next school
year. When we construct classes we try our best to set up lists that are
balanced and heterogeneous. There are several factors that need to be
considered when placing children in classes. Some but not all of those
factors include a child ’s individual needs, academic ability, combination
of students, and boy/girl ratio. Our teachers are all well rounded and
qualified professionals who work closely with their grade level partners
to meet the academic and social needs of each student. We appreciate
your understanding in this matter.
Congratulations to Kairav Gonur!
Willy Wonka
Spring Musical
A big round of applause to
musical
director
Norah
Leddy and the cast, crew
and volunteers of this
year’s
school
musical,
Willy Wonka.
Lots of
time, effort, talent and
teamwork paid off and we
were treated to fabulous
performances by a very
talented
group
of
students!
Great
job,
Explorers!
Kairav created a poster for the Red Ribbon Week
contest sponsored by the Elks Lodge. The theme
was “’Down with drugs. Up with Awareness!”
Kairav won first place at the District level (which
includes a radius of 100 miles around Sacramento)
and he also won at the State level. The next step
is the National level where the ceremony is held at
the Grand Elks Lodge in Chicago Illinois.

PTC News
Can you believe the year is almost over! We would like to send out huge
“thank yous” to all of the families and businesses who donated and
supported our 5th Annual Gates Jog-A-Thon two weeks ago. We had a
great student participation rate so we really appreciate your generosity.
We were able to raise about $16,000 which will greatly help our school
purchase some much needed electronics for the classrooms. A big
THANK YOU to our chair people Jodi Schmittner, DyAnn Donnell,
Lindsay Winkler and Jill Henderson along with all of the parent volunteers
for making sure this event was a success.
PTC Board Elections for the upcoming 2014/2015 school year were held at our last meeting with the
following positions were filled as follows: President-Mia Melville, Vice-President-Leticia Gates,
Secretary-Mary Campbell and Treasurer-Marissa Ramos. Thank you so much to each one of the elected
board members for donating your time to help make the school a better place for our children. We really
appreciate it.
Teacher Appreciation week is in two weeks so look for information coming home soon on how you can
spoil your teachers during their special week.
Our last movie night of the year is Friday, May 2nd and we will be featuring "The Nut Job". This will be a
very special movie night because we will be providing each Gates student with a movie buck good for a
slice of pizza and drink. The doors open at 6 pm and the movie starts at 6:30 pm. PARENT
SUPERVISION REQUIRED.
It's almost Spring Carnival time again!!! This event will be on May 16th,
from 5-8 pm here at Gates. Wristbands will be for sale for $5 and there will
be games, silly string wars, food vendors, kid’s car wash, balloon battles, a
screamer slide, zorb balls and more. Each classroom will be responsible
for a game booth, and room parents will be asking for volunteers to work
the booths in 30 min shifts. Thank you in advance for helping us make this
helping us make this VERY popular event possible. Look for more information to come home soon.
Our final Box Tops submission date is Thursday May 15th. This will be a classroom
contest so make sure and gather up all your box tops and turn them into the office.
The class with the most box tops will earn a snow cone party!!!
Don't forget we're still collecting Labels for Education! You can turn in your labels
with your student at any time or you may also drop them off in the front office. The
points earned from this collection will go towards the purchase of new playground
e q u i p m e n t which is always needed. We hope many of you will be able to help us achieve our goal!
Lastly, we will be having our final PTC meeting on Wednesday, May 28th at 6:30 pm in the library. As
always free childcare is provided for Gates students in the cafeteria. We are also looking for people to
fill our open event chairs for the upcoming 2014/2015 school year. If you are interested in becoming
more involved in the PTC and might consider heading up an event for next year, please e-mail us at
[email protected] to see which events are open.
