Please can you help me? - Australian Veterinary Association

Please
can you
help me?
Our aim is to help
make the lives of
our pets longer,
more comfortable
and free of disease.
I suffer from a disease that vets do not fully
understand. The Australian Companion
Animal Health Foundation is funding research
for a possible cure.
Your donation may make all the difference.
Your gift will be a
lasting and positive
way to say ‘thank
you’ for all the love
and companionship
which animals
willingly give us.

What kind of investigations
are carried out?
ACAHF Memorial Donation Form
The type of research funded is wide-ranging, but it must be
for the direct benefit of companion animals - for example,
investigation into arthritis, heart disease, diabetes and
cancer. The research is primarily focussed on having a
better understanding of the basic disorder, leading to
improved methods of treatment and prevention.

What is the ACAHF?
The Australian Companion Animal Health Foundation
(ACAHF) was established in 1989 as a not-for-profit trust
of the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA).
The major aim of the Foundation is to help fund
investigative projects to further our knowledge of the
cause, treatment and prevention of the clinical diseases of
companion animals, mainly dogs and cats.
Funding for this type of clinical activity is typically not
available from government or university funding bodies.
The Foundation raises money through donations from
veterinarians, companies associated with the pet industry,
pet owners and other concerned members of the public.
How does it operate?
Elected Trustees oversee the operation of the ACAHF.
Funds donated to the ACAHF are distributed to clinical
research projects after careful assessment by a Research
Committee, consisting of eminent veterinarians from
veterinary schools and private practices around Australia.
Any research involving animals must conform to the very
strict welfare guidelines of the AVA, the National Health
and Medical Research Council and the Research
Committee. The Trustees of the Foundation monitor all
research that is carried out under funding by the
Foundation.
ASAVA, a Special Interest Group of the AVA, donates office
space and administrative support to the Foundation. This
helps to keep administrative costs to a minimum and allows
virtually all the money donated to the Foundation to be used
for the benefit of companion animals.
A bequest to the ACAHF would be a lasting tribute in
support of this very necessary work. If you wish to make
a bequest in your personal will to leave a donation for the
ACAHF, please use the wording below under the advice of
your solicitor:
“I ________ (full name), give the sum of $ _____(amount)
free of all duties and testamentary expenses to the
Australian Companion Animal Health Foundation for the
purpose of animal health research and I direct that the
receipt of the Treasurer for the time being of the Australian
Companion Animal Health Foundation or the Treasurer’s
delegate shall be sufficient discharge to my executors for this
bequest.”
Donations
Any donation, no matter how small, helps to further our
knowledge of companion animal health and disease.
Donations may be made in memory of a pet. A record of
these donations will be maintained by the Foundation and
published in the Annual Report.
All gifts and donations to the Foundation are tax deductible
to the donor under the Income Tax Assessment Act.
