Project Name: Bouncing Quarter
Materials:



Empty 2 quart bottle
Quarter
Cup of tap water
Process:
1. Pour the cup of tap water into the bottle. Do not place the cap on the bottle.
2. Place the bottle into a freezer for 30 minutes.
3. Remove the bottle from the freezer and place the quarter on top of the bottle.
4. As the water in bottle begins to warm up, the quarter will begin to dance.
Scientific Rational:
When you placed the bottle within the freezer, the water began to cool and the water
molecules began to condense (move closer together). As the water in the bottle warmed
up, the molecules expanded (moved apart) which forced air out of the bottle, causing the
quarter to bounce.
