Effective Scorpion Control

Effective Scorpion Control
Dealing with scorpions on a regular basis is one of the things we encounter in the desert. There are many creepy crawly
insects in Arizona, but out of them all, scorpions rank among the least favorite.
Arizona Bark Scorpions
Scorpions are a prominent species. They thrive in dry desert climates. The bark scorpion in particular, also one of the most
dangerous species of scorpions, is the kind we see most often in Arizona. It is the most venomous scorpion in North America,
and unfortunately enough, we have them right here in our backyards.
Arizona Bark Scorpions are incredibly resilient making them more difficult to control. They are nocturnal, and come out at
night to hunt for crickets, beetles, roaches and other small insects. This means the more pests you have in and around your
home, the better food source you are providing to the lurking scorpions.
While they do thrive in the desert, they do not however, enjoy the strong desert heat. During the day, you will find them
under rocks, piles of debris or wood, and other objects you have around your home. They keep themselves well protected
from the hot Arizona sun. Their protective measures include squeezing into tiny cracks and crevices that might be accessible
to your home.
We are all aware that these scorpions are not the prettiest to look at. With their aggressive front claws and their long tail and
threatening stinger, it is not a wonder they are not welcomed into our homes with open arms. Moreover, scorpions can cause
further damage than just creeping and crawling through your home.
Harmful Pests
The largest threat that scorpions pose is there painful sting. The Arizona Bark Scorpion being the most venomous in North
America, can cause more than just pain. A scorpion sting can cause inflammation at the sting point, redness, numbness,
shortness of breath, even immobility of the stung area.
More severe symptoms may include numbness throughout the body, swollen tongue and/or throat, erratic eye movement,
trouble breathing and seizures. In extreme cases, a scorpion sting could even cause death. Scorpion venom is most poisonous
to the young or elderly, or those that have an allergy to the venom.
Luckily, there are some simple remedies for scorpion stings to ease the pain, and an anti-venom available for those extreme
cases where more severe symptoms persist.
Be Aware
One of the best things you can do to protect yourself from those Arizona Bark Scorpions is to be aware and take precautions.
It is important to figure out what you can do to keep yourself, your family and pets, safe from harmful scorpion stings. Here
are a few simple things you can do around your home to reduce the chances of encountering a scorpion.
 Remove excess piles of garbage, wood, and debris from around your home.
 Maintain your lawn and keep the grass cut.
 Seal all cracks and crevices in your home.
 Use pest control services to eliminate their food source.
 Wear shoes when walking around your home at night.
 Do not leave clothes and especially damp towels on the floor.
 Use a black light to identify and eliminate scorpions at night.
If after taking these precautions, you are regularly finding scorpions inside your home, you should seek the help of a
