Together 1 lessons. It furthers pupils’ experience and
achievement on an instrument by developing instrumental
techniques through an understanding of pattern and structure.

Audience
Year 6 children. Group of approx 30. Possibly those recognised as
‘More Able’ in singing.
Description
Pupils learn to sing with confidence and lead singing activities. The
project will incorporate a number of singing games, warm ups and
songs, and will be aimed at developing Young Singing leaders. The
sessions will be directed by a Milton Keynes Music Service singing
animateur. There will be a performance session at the end of the
project, led by some of the children.

Keyboard Project 1

The numbers eventually performed will involve all three elements of
musical theatre, dance, drama and singing. The children will get
vocal training and an introduction into the world of musical theatre.
Repertoire chosen from: Wicked, Oliver, Les Miserables, Rent and
others. Sessions to consist of - vocal warm up's and exercises;
pitch work; projection and vocal technique; a selection of Musical
Theatre song and dance; drama games – improvisation to improve
confidence and acting skills. Culminating in a performance.

This project will provide an introduction to the basics of keyboard
playing (for pupils who have not had Playing Together 1 keyboard
tuition). The project will incorporate NC Ongoing Skills which focus
on the development of the singing voice and other essential musical
skills - eg listening skills, aural memory and physical skills.

Description
Exploring The Blues - with a focus on keyboard playing. The
project will involve a variety of listening, composing and
performance opportunities, including listening to and finding out
about the Blues, simple chord playing on the keyboard, melody
improvisation and composition and singing and playing of
different Blues. The opportunity to work in pairs and a group.

A class composition and performance project based on composing
activities using sticks/cans and dustbin lids to create an exciting
rhythmic piece for performance, with a focus on the musical
elements of beat/rhythm/metre/texture/timbre and structure. Pupil

Description
This project aims to introduce children to the cultural background and
function of the Gamelan, to examine technical and performing aspects
and creative ideas. Children will play and listen to music written for the
Gamelan, examine cyclic patterns and compose their own music. The
project will be run in schools on tuned percussion instruments and will
culminate in a half-day session on the Music Service’s Javanese
Gamelan at the Music Service. This is a very good follow-on for schools
who have done Playing Together World Percussion.
The Gamelan is ideally suited for developing group music-making and
team-building skills.
