Available in any of General Cable’s fiber optic designs, this line of laser optimized fiber is the clear choice for
building high-speed networks.
Are you aware that General Cable offers the G-Series, IEEE 802.3z Gigabit Ethernet compliant, multimode fiber?
Designed for runs of cable longer than the IEEE 802.3z standard, this line of laser optimized fiber solutions is
Product
General Cable’s G-Series of Multimode Fiber
available across General Cable’s entire line of fiber optic cables. Central to the designed performance of the
performance of laser based systems, such as Gigabit Ethernet, beyond the limits imposed by industry standards.
The G-Series of fiber also offers backward compatibility to TIA/EIA-568-A systems.
FDDI grade 62.5/125 multimode fiber is no longer the simple, future-proof option it once was. General Cable’s line
of laser tested multimode fibers is designed to provide the end-user with easy-to-understand, long-term, cutting
edge solutions for network infrastructure.

Blazing The Gigabit Ethernet Trail
Ever-changing applications and system requirements for the fiber optic
plant makes choosing the right fiber a critical aspect of network design.
Ethernet (10 Mbps), Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) and similar protocols utilize low-cost LED light sources to transmit optical signals
through the fiber. As network speeds increase to 1 Gbps and higher, LEDs are not able to perform and have been replaced by laserbased sources. The most common of these optical sources is the Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser, or VCSEL, operating at 850nm.
VCSELs provide the balance of speed and cost efficiency demanded to drive widespread acceptance of Gigabit Ethernet.
This migration path from LED-based networks to the use of lasers or VCSELs, operating at Gigabit speeds, limits the distances signals
will effectively transmit – distances that structured wiring users are accustomed to. General Cable combines all of the performance
advantages of VCSELs with the G-Series fiber, guaranteeing the end-user the best physical medium for laser-based systems, enhanced
distance performance, and compatibility with standards and existing TIA/EIA-568-A systems.
Simply put, the G-series offers the solution for current and future network platforms that end-users are demanding. These multimode
fibers meet and exceed the IEEE 802.3z, TIA/EIA-568-A, and ATM industry standards, completing General Cable’s offering of a full line of
fiber optic cables supporting 10Base-FL through 1000Base-SX/LX applications.
General Cable’s G-Series fiber offering:
This fiber is the standard offering for General Cable’s laser optimized fibers. It is a 62.5/125 multimode fiber that is
capable of transmitting a Gigabit Ethernet laser signal 300 meters at 850nm and 550 meters at 1300nm. It is ideal
for central cabling architectures and fiber-to-the-desk (FTTD).
This premium 62.5/125 multimode fiber can transmit a Gigabit Ethernet laser signal up to 500 meters at 850nm and
1000 meters at 1300nm. G500 fiber is perfect for long length, high-speed backbone routes.
This fiber is a 50/125 multimode fiber that can be used for Gigabit Ethernet laser signals up to 600 meters at 850nm,
the longest distance of the General Cable G-Series fibers. The link distance for 1300nm is 600 meters as well. It
meets all requirements of ISO 11801 and TIA/EIA-568-B.3.
By specifying General Cable fiber, you are assured of receiving a fiber that will perform
to the highest levels of your network.
