Was slavery the primary cause of the Civil War? Why or why not?
Did most Americans in
the 1800s view the
country or the state as
most important?

The state because most people did not travel very far from where they were
born.

Various states developed similar characteristics and identified with each
other. This is called sectionalism.
The South grew cotton, rice, and sugar and depended on slaves.
The North had small family farms and developed manufacturing.
The Midwest was still a frontier based on farming.
Each section was dependent on each other for various items like labor and
food.

Steps for Taking Notes
1.
Go to www.tracy.k12.ca.us/sites/rlee.
2.
Open the Shared Documents file; then open the US History file; and then open the Unit Power
Points file.
3.
Open the power point file. There will be two saved. One will created and saved using Office
2013. The other will be created and saved in Office 2007. There may only be sound for Office
2013 version. Mrs. Lee is working on fixing that problem.
4.
Watch the power point file. If there is sound, great. If not, Mrs. Lee is working on it.
5.
Label a right side in your notebook the note title which is usually the name of the power point
file.
6.
Please label the left side of the notebook (across from your first page of notes), the Note
Summary. For example, if the notes are “Revolution Notes,” the left side next to your first page
of notes should be titled “Revolution Summary.”
6.
Write the focus question.
7.
Set up for Cornell notes.
8.
You are to write the bullet points in the right side.
9.
The following day, as a group, you will come up with section questions.
10.
The note conclusion is usually done that night for homework so the notes will be due the next
day.
