The Elmore County Commission has approved 55 miles of local road projects for FY15. These projects are in addition to three bridge projects and 110 miles of roads that were recently approved through the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (ATRIP). Along with the ATRIP projects, the County will address a total of 165 miles of roads and is currently exploring avenues to include another 45 miles of roadway. “I believe the County Commission has a great opportunity to improve a large portion of county roads through these projects,” said Commission Chairman David Bowen, “and the Commission knows the continued growth of Elmore County hinges on our roadways.” If the additional 45 miles are approved, the total impact will include 210 miles of roads calculated at $26,619,585 with the local cost share to the County totaling $9,323,917. In order to determine which roadways were included in the current project, the Elmore County Highway Department combined data related to traffic counts and condition assessments from routine inspection cycles that are tabulated for all the roads in the County’s paved road inventory. Through use of this data, roads were narrowed down and selected based on review and input from each Commissioner.
