Working at Bonikro fact sheet

WORKING AT:
BONIKRO
Location
Accommodation and facilities
The Bonikro operation is located in the centralsouthern portion of Côte d’Ivoire in West Africa.
In the west it is bordered by Liberia and Guinea, to
the north by Mali and Burkina Faso and to the east
by Ghana. Bonikro is 250 kilometres north-west
of Abidjan and 15.5 kilometres from the nearest
village, Hiré.
Expats and visitors are housed at the Concorde Hotel in Oumé or at
the camp in the town of Hiré, where breakfast, lunch, and dinner is
provided. Lunch is provided on site for all employees.
Language
The official language is French, although many
languages are spoken. It is difficult to find many
people who speak English. This also means that
menus and other written material are often in
French.
Climate
Côte d’Ivoire experiences a tropical climate with a
high level of humidity. Average temperatures range
from 24 to 37 degrees Celsius. The wet season runs
from May to November and the dry season is from
December to April.
There is mobile phone coverage at Bonikro. Internet access
is available in the Abidjan office, Bonikro mine site and the
Yamoussoukro exploration office.
There is a doctor, a paramedic (International SOS) and three nurses
located at site.
Recreation
The accomodation facilities at the Hiré camp are equipped with a
modern gym and a pool.
In Yamoussoukro, which is about two hours from Hiré, employees
can visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro, the
university, and see the crocodiles in the lakes outside the palace of
former president Houphouët Boigny.
Around the capital Abidjan, there are beaches, lagoons and islands
with comfortable hotels.
Working for Newcrest in Côte d’Ivoire is a
dream come true and has been a pleasure from
day one. There are always new challenges and
working in Côte d’Ivoire is a good for my overall
work experience. During my time off I spend
most of my time on the Lagoons of Abidjan.
