LETTER FROM PRESIDENT MARK LOMBARDI, PHD
Dear Friends,
Maryville is leading a revolution in higher education.
Our leadership is recognized by students, parents and strategic
partners locally, regionally and nationally, and nowhere is that
more evident than through our unprecedented Strategic Growth.
If we break down these two words, the importance of what we are
doing is evident. Strategic: creative, intentional and well-planned.
Growth: the outcome of this careful preparation.
Over the past five years, Maryville has grown exponentially in every
Local partnerships are growing on campus, too, such as Abstrakt
Marketing Group’s satellite office in Reid Hall, which offers paid
student interns hands-on experience in marketing and sales.
Our brand new Cyber Security Fusion Center creates real-world
opportunities for students to become cyber sleuths for businesses
and nonprofits.
Also, new programs like Cyber Security, BA and MA, our oneyear MBA and our Interactive Design BFA with a game design
concentration reflect our responsiveness to emerging fields and

As our campus expanded, so did our student body — not only in
We built a technology grid that is second to none nationally,
and on that platform we launched our Digital World partnership
with Apple. With all students receiving iPads customized with
60 learning apps in the cloud, students took ownership of their
own learning experience. Together, more than 90 percent of our
faculty immersed themselves in professional development to
remake the classroom into an interactive learning space. And,
working closely with our instructional designers and developers,
faculty have created robust content stretching from the first-year
experience to graduate and online programs for working adults.
Key capital projects over the past year have resulted in living and
learning spaces that enhance student success, including Saints Hall,
a multi-featured 220-bed residence that opened in Fall 2016 to
near capacity. A new theatre-style presentation room in our
numbers but in the range of cultures and communities that more
closely reflect the rich and vital diversity of our nation.
Given these successes, it is not surprising that more corporations
throughout the St. Louis area have partnered with us to sponsor
programs, engage our student interns and provide continuing
educational experiences for their employees.
Throughout this expansion, the remaining constants are our
shared history, our loyalty to our alumni and our core resolve to
lead a revolution in higher education that expands access and
opportunities for all. It is both my duty and my privilege to lead
this great community, and I thank you for the honor of continuing
on this journey with you.
Sincerely,
