FOR THE 88TH OSCARS® GOVERNORS BALL
Floral Designer Celebrates 22nd Year As Part Of
Hollywood’s Biggest Night Of Stars
LOS ANGELES. CA (February 18, 2016) – Celebrity floral designer Mark Held, of MARK’S
GARDEN®, returns as the exclusive florist of the Governors Ball, the Academy’s official postOscar® on Sunday, February 28, 2016. Working with Ball Chair, Jeffrey Kurland, and President
and Owner of Sequoia Productions, Cheryl Cecchetto’s innovative theme, which features midcentury décor and famed caricatures inspired from historical, iconic locations like Brown Derby
and Sardi’s, Held is creating a series of dramatic, highly stylized floral sculptures which will grace
tables for Hollywood’s most important gala. The Governors Ball will take place in the Ray Dolby
Ballroom at the Hollywood & Highland Center® immediately following the broadcast of the 88th
Oscars®.
“This year, we designed arrangements that are simple and elegant in crisp white with
occasional accents of pink to reflect the style of the drawings and décor that are an integral part
of the Ball’s décor,” said Held. “Arrangements are set in a variety of rectangular glass and ceramic
containers; some with angular pink painted designs. In addition, some will incorporate light
globes in copper tone vessels,” he noted. Thousands of flowers will be specially flown in from
Holland, South America and Mexico at the last minute, ensuring the freshest flowers available for
this star-studded gala. Held expects to use over 10,000 blooms for the arrangements, which
include calla lilies, gardenias, ranunculus, phalaenopsis orchids and succulents. In addition, the
serving staff at the Governors Ball will wear a new variety of dusty pink carnations as a tribute to
the period portrayed in the Al Hirschfeld caricatures.

The 88th Oscars® will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre® at
Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and will be televised live by the ABC Television
Network at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than
225 countries and territories worldwide.
