Yr1 Weekly Update - 02/9/16
TD Theme: How we organise ourselves
Central idea: To function as part of a community people take on different roles and responsibilities.
A big thank you for all the parents who attended the Welcome Meetings this week! It was lovely to get to meet you all one on one
and share some very useful information about your child.
The Year One Teachers have currently completed their reading assessments from each class, so your child should now be borrowing
one book from a certain leveled reading box every day when they come to school. A kind reminder to please fill in the sheets in your
R.E.D (Read Every Day Folder) to let us know whether your child was able to read the book by themselves or required support from
an adult.

In addition, we have emailed all parents to please ask you to bring in a photograph of your child's family on Monday. We will be
sticking this into our workbooks, so please provide a photocopy and not an original photograph.
Maths
The students have been continuing to demonstrate their number knowledge of numbers up to 100. Some children have chosen a
number, drawn or used manipulatives to show what the number looks like. We have also started practising drawing, writing and
ordering numbers using a range of crafts such as playdough and painting.
Literacy
In literacy we have continued to review the sounds of SCMPTAO and have started to think of words that match these sounds. We
have also begun writing in our handwriting books and are practising independent reading!
Unit of Inquiry
The children have been introduced to their first Unit of Inquiry in Year One under the theme, How We Organize Ourselves. This
week the have thought about how we are organised at school by drawing pictures of what goes into their school bag.
A few kind reminders to:
* Please notify the school office and the bus mother of any changes in your child's going home schedule. It is important that both
the school office and bus mother is informed. Teachers are unable to always get to their email at the end of the day, so please call as
soon as you know of alternative home arrangements to be made with your child.
*Please bring your child's named A3 folder that contains their diary and reader every day to school. This is to ensure we can check
for any important notices and forms from home, as well as having your child exchange books every day.
* Please label every item of clothing and belongings with your child's name ? including shoes and their school bags.
* Please remember to pack a school hat, a waterbottle and a snack every day, labeled with your child's name. Your child should also
have a snack box and water bottle that he/she can open by his/herself.

*Please ensure that your snacks do not contain nuts, as we have quite a number of children who are severly allergic to nuts at school.
* Deli Fresh Lunch will start from September for Year One students so your child will need to bring a packed lunch to school every
day until then. Please remember that cutlery will not be provided for students. These will need to be brought from home and labeled
with your child's name.
