Q: Did you hear the joke about the peanut bu er? A: I’m not telling you. You might spread it! Please take the me this weekend to look at the schools new website. It has been updated to the latest Ultranet pla orm which gives it a modern and fresh look, connects to social media and is adaptable to all mobile devices. This means the website adjusts to the screen size of your mobile device and is much more user friendly to view and interact with. As part of upda ng our website we have looked at how learners share their learning with parents, grandparents and other family members via online por olios and/or class pages. We are going to be moving away from using the current E-Space class pages and moving towards using Google Apps for Educa on. The first reason for this change is Google Apps for Educa on provides a be er range and quality of Apps for our learners to interact with and use to share their learning. The second reason is Google Apps are free. I look forward to sharing this journey with you all and informing you of the progress we make over the year ahead. At Glentunnel School we aim to provide a school environment where learners, staff and our community members feel confident, safe and respected. Our focus is on learning and how all learners can achieve their poten al. Through the input of our students, parents, staff and Board of Trustees we have developed our new Rela onship Management Procedures to guide us towards this aim. This document can be found on the school website by clicking on the ‘About’ tab, then the ‘Overview’ tab and then by selec ng the document from the links on the right hand side. If you wish to view a hard copy please ask for one at the school office. We welcome our school community to join us for our end of term learning celebra on next Thursday at the Glentunnel Hall (11am start) and a erwards at school (12.30pm). At the hall we will share some waiata with you followed by each class sharing a small item about their learning from the term. A er you have been entertained we will head back to school for a picnic lunch together. For the picnic lunch we envision everyone si ng down together as a big family/whanau with their own food/kai. So please send your child to school with their normal lunch and bring whatever you would like to eat when you join us. A er lunch you are welcome to take your child home for the start of a much deserved break. For those that stay on we have some firewood to deliver and stack for a local community member, some Easter ac vi es/cra s, classroom cleaning and some other entertainment. The bus will be running at the normal me for those students and families that require it. For those that wish to a end Eddie Karst’s funeral, it is at the Glentunnel Hall at 1pm on Monday the 10th of April. Thank you to Larissa and Nate for extending the invita on to the school community. As this is the last newsle er of the term I wish you all an exci ng and joyful term break. I’m reminded every day that the me we get to spend with our children is so precious and goes by so fast. Coalgate Sale Yard roster Wednesday 12 April Cooking Juanita McAndrew, Rach Moore Pie Jade Lee Baking Nic Hardy, Janine Kirkby, Findabair Joynes News from Room 1 Listen up Jakob, Is that your name? Oh yeah, it’s taped on the side of me. This is Blue Pen here. Your favourite wri ng pen. I’m going to hurt your feelings. I quit that’s right. I’m not going to say it again. Here are the reasons why. You never use me for maths. Why can’t I do maths? I want to do maths, not to be a nerd but so I can be smarter than Grey Pencil. Why do I want to be smarter than Grey Pencil, you ask? Well I just want to make Grey Pencil be quiet. He never stops showing off, and says I’m dumb, yeah that’s right he uses the ‘d’ word. So you’ve got to let me do some maths, I know I can be smarter than Grey Pencil. And when I am, he’ll quieten down – life will be peaceful. So perhaps I won’t quit if we have a deal. From your sad, annoyed non-friend Blue Pen. P.S. Oh yeah, pre y, pre y, please, stop clicking me, and can I draw more. Thanks. Jakob Coleman (Year 6) Camp Ground, Easter Saturday Cake Stall – Year 5 & 6 Camp Fundraiser As previously men oned, Jane and I will prepare for, and Selina and I will run a fundraising cake stall on Easter Saturday 10:00 am in front of the campground kitchen. Dearest Parents/Caregivers – if you are able to support this fundraiser in some way, we would love to receive goods to sell. It is being adver sed/promoted as a cake stall at the camp ground (flyers in the office, kitchen, etc.), but campers have expressed an interest in “market” type goods also. Therefore, if you have half a dozen fresh eggs, a po le of homemade jam, or a home-sewn apron, etc., etc., we welcome any items that are saleable. If you and/or your child would like to help out at the stall, please let Jane or I know by the last day of term, so that we can establish a list of helpers and/or a roster if required. If you intend to donate non-perishable goods, they can be le in the school kitchen on the last day of term (labelled, and priced please). If you intend to donate perishable goods, they can be brought to school and given to me from 9:15 – 9:40 am. Selina and I will then drive down to the camp ground, set up, and begin selling at 10:00 am. Goods can be delivered to us outside the kitchen from 9:50 am. In an cipa on of your support, many thanks. Possible Fundraiser for Year 5 & 6 Camp - Pine Cones Last year pine cones were sold at the school gate. A good deal of money was raised by way of this venture. There is a secure “honesty” box at the gate, and the Year 5 & 6 students could sell pine cones again this year… if anyone has access to dry pines cones could you please let Debbie or Jane know and we could hopefully find some keen collectors to bag them up. We have heaps of bags at school – so could supply bags, to all keen pine cone collectors. Last week you will have read part of Kailash’s diary entry at the try-athlon. Here is the en re entry – all finished! Dear Diary Yesterday we had the school try-athlon. The whole school took part in the try-athlon. First we had to do the swim, then we ran down to the bike track and across to the domain where our bikes were. We rode our bikes twice around the domain. I was feeling red now, so I didn’t run with the others. I feel proud that I did most of the try-athlon by myself.
