Transformations of Square Root Functions
f(x) = a√x h + k
h horizontal translation √x + h is to the left
√x h is to the right
k vertical translation
√x + k is up
√x k is down
a orientation and shape
if negative reflected over xaxis
if |a| > 1, stretched vertically
if 0<|a|<1, compressed vertically
Example 2
Graph each function. State the domain and range.
a. y = 3√x 4 + 2
b. y = √x + 5 6
