Quick Start Guide: Adding a Custom Picture Viewer
Introduction:
This guide covers how to:




Create a Picture library for the small and large image viewers
Add the small or large image viewer to a webpage
Add pictures to the Picture library
Do what you need to do to reorder the pictures
Note: In order to create a Picture library, or add a webpart to a web page, you must have the
appropriate permissions or ask someone who has them to do that part for you.
Creating a Picture library for the small and large image viewers
1. From the page of the site you want to add the image viewer
to, click on Site Actions, View All Site Content.
2. Click the Create button.

3. Locate the Libraries for Large or Small Images and click on it. Enter an appropriate title
for the library (such as Veterans Small Image Viewer Library). Click Create.
Adding the small or large image viewer to a webpage
Note: You can add images to the gallery before or after you add the webpart to a page.
1. Go to the page you wish to add the large or small image viewer to, and go to Site
Actions, Edit Page. (Note: You can only add ONE image viewer to a given page).
2. Click in the Page Column you wish to add the Viewer to. Click on the Insert Tab under
Editing Tools. Click the Web Part button.

3. Click on the Custom folder on the left, and then choose which Viewer you want (large
or small) and then click Add.
4. You will now see a small bar. Hover over it and a black drop down arrow will appear
on the right. Click the drop down arrow and select Edit Webpart.
5. The edit box will appear at the top right of the page.
You may need to scroll up the page to find it.
Click on the drop down arrow under List and select
the Small and Large Image Library you created in
the step above.

6. Scroll to the bottom of the edit box and find Chrome Type.
Click the drop down button and select None. Then click
Ok.
7. That is all there is to do with it. Save and Close or Check In
the page.
Add pictures to the Picture library
1. From the site you added the Picture Library to, go to Site Actions, View all Site Content.
2. Under Document Libraries, locate your Small or Large Picture library and click on it.
3. Notice you are in Standard View. Click on Add document.
4. Click on Upload Multiple Files.

5. Shift or Ctrl to select the images you wish to upload from your computer and then click
Open.
6. The list of images will now be shown. Click Ok if this list looks correct.

7. Once the pictures finish uploading, click Done.
8. Notice you are in Standard View. You can see all the pictures you uploaded, and
columns for Headline, SubHeadline, LinkURL and SortOrder.
9. Click on Datasheet View. This will make it so you can quickly fill in the Headline,
Subheadline, LinkURL (if you need it to have a link) and the SortOrder just by typing
right in the sheet.

10. Fill out the data for the images as you want it to appear. Remember, if this is for the
small image viewer, don’t use too many words as you want it to all fit within the
viewer. Note: This data can be added/changed at any time. In the SortOrder field, put
a number next to each picture based on the order you wish it to appear. So for the
first picture, put a 1 in that cell.
11. Go to the page you put the image viewer on, and see how it looks.
Note: You can add and delete pictures from the library any time, and reorder them too.

How to do what you need to do to reorder the pictures down the road
Changing the order of the pictures is simple.
1. From the site the Picture viewer library is in, go to Site Actions, View All Site Content.
2. Under Document Libraries, click on the Picture viewer library you need to edit.
3. Notice you are in the Standard View.
4. Click the Library tab under Library Tools, and select DataSheet View.
5. In the SortOrder column, simply change the numbers so they reflect the order you
want.
