OzarksMedicalCenterBehavioralHealthcarereceivedathree-yearaccreditationforitsHealthcareHomeprogramfrom
CARFInternational.HealthcareHomeisaservicethatcoordinatesanindividual'scompletecareincludingmedicalcare,
behavioralcare,andrelatedsocialservicessupports.Inaddition,BHCwasrecognizedbythestateinclientoutcomes
andcomplianceandrankednumberthreeinthestate.Inthefirsttwoyearsoftheprogram,OMCwasnumberoneinthe
stateforweightlossinindividualswithabodymassindexofmorethan40.Ofthoseindividuals,31percenthadaweight
lossofatleast10percentduringtheprogram.
DiabetesRecognition
OMCwasawardedtheAmericanDiabetesAssociationEducationRecognitionCertificateforitsdiabetesselfmanagementeducationprogram.Theprogramwasoriginallyrecognizedin2010.OMC'sprogram,LivingwithDiabetes,
provideseducationtoindividualswithdiabetesandcaregiversofdiabetics.
HeartCare
Door-to-balloontimeisaqualitymeasureindicatingtheamountoftimebetweenaheartattackpatient'sarrivalatthe
emergencyroomtothetimethatpatient'sblockedarteryisreopenedinthecardiaccatheterizationlab.In2014,OMC
performed245coronaryinterventionswithadoor-to-balloontimeof64minutes,substantiallybetterthanthenational
standardof90minutes,setbyAmericanHeartAssociation.

partnershipwithOMCtoprovidecareataweeklyclinicinWestPlains.Dr.Hornerspecializesinthe
diagnosisandtreatmentofallergicandimmunologicdiseasesinchildrenandadults.
AbdominalAorticAneurysm(AAA)Stents
OMCisnowusingadvancednon-surgicaltechniquestotreatabdominalaorticaneurysms.Ifleftuntreated,alarge
aneurysmcanruptureandcauselife-threateningbleeding.TheprocedureusedatOMCtorepairtheaneurysmiscalled
endovascularstentgraftingandisanewerformoftreatment,lessinvasivethanopensurgery.Byofferingatreatment
optionthatdoesnotinvolvemajorsurgery,patientscanreceivethecaretheyneedwithoutleavingthecommunity,
lettingthemreturntotheireverydayactivitiesasquicklyandconvenientlyaspossible.

DirectorofRespiratoryandSleepMedicine.AtLungCareServices,Dr.Mellaspecializesintreatingdisordersrelatedto
thelungsandrespiratorysystemsuchaspneumonia,tuberculosis,emphysemaandcomplicatedchestinfections.Dr.
Mellasaidhealsohasaspecialinterestinasthma,sleepdisorders,lungdiseases,andchronicobstructivepulmonary
disease(COPD).

OMCaddednewfullfielddigitalmammographytechnologytoitswomen'shealthservicesinorderto
providethehighestqualityandmostaccuratetestingtopatients.Thenewdigitalmammographymachines
greatlyincreasedthespeedandqualityoftheimages.Thisnewtechnology,alongwithmorethan76years
combinedexperiencewithourmammographytechnologists,meanwomencanfeelextremelyconfidentaboutreceiving
amammogramatOMC.
ComputerizedProviderOrderEntry(CPOE)
OMCisusingtechnologytoimprovepatientsafetyandmakecaremoreefficientbyadoptinganelectronicordersystem
forphysicians.ThesystemiscalledCareProviderOrderEntryorCPOE.Ratherthanwritingbyhandmedication
prescriptions,testingordersandcareinstructions,physiciansnowhavetheabilitytoenterelectronicordersfor
hospitalizedpatientsintheircare.Thiseliminateshandwritingerrorsandmakestheprocessmoreefficientbecause
thereisnodelayincommunicationbetweenthephysicianandotherdepartmentsornursingstaff.

insuranceoptionsavailablethroughtheMissouriHealthInsuranceMarketplace.Thegrantprovideseducationonhealth
insurancebasics,waystohelppayforinsuranceandhowtobuyinsurance.ThegrantalsofundedCertifiedApplication
Counselorstohelpindividualsenrollinthemarketplace.
USDADistanceLearningandTelemedicine(DLT)-$274,368
Thisequipmentwillestablishcriticaltelehealthservicesenhancingcareandaccessamongtheunderserved.Througha
networkofproviders,issuesprevalentinourcommunitiestoday(Telestroke,Telepsychiatry,Teledermotolgy,thesharing
ofresources,andTelespeech)willbeaddressedthroughthisinnovativeapproachinhealthcare.
MissouriFoundationforHealthSpecialProjects(CaseManagementintheEmergencyDept.)-$446,121
OzarksMedicalCenterwillprovideaccesstocasemanagementintheEmergencyDepartmentforatotalofthreeyearsto
highutilizingpatientspresentingwithcomplexmedical/socialneeds.Twofull-timecasemanagerswillworkwiththe
coremanagementteamtodevelopanindividualizedpatientplanresultinginqualitypatientcare.
HRSA-RuralHealthNetworkPlanningGrant-$75,324
ProjectOIHAwillfocusondevelopingastrategicplanfocusingonidentifyingadditionalpotentialcollaboratingpartners
throughoutthestatesecuringtheviabilityofeachnetworkmember.Achievingsystemefficiencies,expandingaccess,
improvingthequalityofservicescreatescollaborativeopportunitiesandincreasespatientsatisfaction.
ExceptionalCompassionateCare
OMCisveryproactiveincancercarelikeamajorhospital
wouldbe,yetIstillhavetheopportunitytogettoknowmy
patientsandspendtimewiththem.Itgivesmethechanceto

itemstotheMarthaVanceSamaritanOutreachCenter.The

$2,800wasawardedtolocalyouthattheHeartoftheOzarksFair

OMCmadea$2,000donationtotheBoysandGirlsClubofthe
GreaterWestPlainsAreatosupporttheyouthorganization's
healthandwellnessinitiatives.
OMCstaffvolunteeredtoservelunchinthesummertochildrenin
theparktoassisttheBoysandGirlsClubofGreaterWestPlains.

Scholarships&Tuition
$40,000inscholarshipreimbursementswereawardedtoatotalofeightcommunityrecipients,whoarefuturehealth
careproviders,includingphysicians.$34,367intuitionreimbursementswereawardedtoemployees,whoareadvancing
theireducationinhealthcare.
ExceptionalTeamwork
OnJune16,EllenDrapkinexperiencedamassivestroke.Thankstothe
quickactionoftheOMCStrokeTeam,sheisontheroadtoafullrecovery.
“Thetherapistandthephysician,allofthesepeopleweresodedicatedto
gettingmewell.Theywantedmetogetbetter,soIcouldwalkoutofthedoorof
thathospitalandnothavetogotoanursinghome.SoIcouldbeself-reliant.And,
that'sexactlywhatIdid,withoutacaneorwalkereven.ItneverfeltthatIwas
anythingbutspecialandimportanttoeveryoneinvolvedinmycare.It'shardto
saythankyouenough.It'sbecauseofthemthatIhavethequalityof
lifethatIdo.It'sbecauseofthemthatIamhere.”

Withsupportfromcommunitydonors,theOzarksMedicalCenterFoundationhas
purchasedanewthermoregulationunitfortheOMCEmergencyDepartmentthatcanhelp
stabilizepatienttemperatures.Theunitcirculates
eitherwarmorcoolfluidsthroughablanketthe
completelycoversthepatientfromallsides.Thistreatmentcanbeusedinpost
cardiacarresttodecreasedamagetotheheartandothersystems.Itcanalsobe
usedtocooldownpatientswithextremelyhigh
temperaturesduetoheatrelatedillnessorwarm
patientswhoaresufferingfromhypothermiaor
areinshock.
