“They have treated superficially the brokenness of My dear people, claiming: Peace, peace, when
there is no peace.” Jeremiah 8:11.; “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give
to you as the world gives.; Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.” John 14:27.
“For He is our peace, who made both groups one and tore down the dividing wall of hostility.”
Ephesians 2:14.; “…..and through Him to reconcile everything to Himself by making peace
through the blood of His Cross…..” Colossians 1:20.
R.I.P. – “Rest In Peace” – I see that expression often. I have seen it a lot this week used in reference to the very sad and tragic death of Hollywood celebrity, Robin Williams, the one many of us first
came to know as the alien, “Mork.” Like so many others have expressed, I remember Robin Williams as
a man with a clear gift for making us laugh. The Bible says, “A joyful heart makes a face cheerful” (Proverbs 15:13), and we all need those who can make our face cheerful. I know he all too often
would resort to worldly language that I guess he felt was necessary to be heard, but the fact remains that
he had a great gift to share with the world. Yet, he could not find the peace he was desperate for. He
kept pursuing those things that simply cannot deliver on the “peace” they promise. They may temporarily
satisfy the cravings of our flesh, but they have no power to give the peace that only comes from Jesus,
the peace that was made by “the blood of His Cross.” That kind of lasting soul peace only comes through
a life changing encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ, and when you receive Him as your “Peace, “ you
then know the kind of peace you know your soul was made for from the beginning.
Is Robin Williams now “resting in peace”? That depends on only one thing – did he know Christ as
His Savior and Lord? In our world today, it is all too common for people to assume that peace always
follows death. Nothing could be further from the truth! If you or I or anyone else departs this life, no matter what the circumstances of our death may be, without knowing Christ, for all the rest of your eternal
existence, you will know nothing of the peace every human soul is made for. That’s the bad news that
makes the Good News so good! From such a horrific eternal destiny, the destiny we have all earned and
all deserve, we can be rescued by simple trusting Jesus. And then we CAN know that we will R.I.P. To
that truth, all I can say is, “HALLELUJAH, WHAT A SAVIOR!”
Who do you know that needs Him as their “Peace”? Are you faithfully praying for them to find
Him? Are you asking the Lord for opportunities yourself to witness to them what having Him as your
“Peace” looks like on a daily basis, and to tell them how they can come to know Him as you do? Are you
investing time in building a relationship with them? Are you at least reaching out to extend to them an
invitation to join you and your church family as we gather for worship each Sunday? The more these
intentional contacts become our daily routine, the more we can look forward to seeing the Lord marvelously and graciously bring in the Harvest here at FBC Moultrie.
Robin Williams was a tortured soul, just like many are in our world today. Whether they have experienced the depths he experienced or not, they still desperately need the “Peace” that we ALL desperately need – JESUS! Amen? AMEN!!!!!
I am looking forward to another great Sunday with you this week. The Spirit’s presence in our
services lately has been very special. Thank you for your faithfulness to attend. One of the most sacred
opportunities we have to worship together as His Church – the Lord’s Supper – we will be celebrating
this Sunday. We will also be exercising a solemn responsibility by electing 9 new Deacons to begin a 3
year term in September. PLEASE prayerfully review your ballot this week and come prepared to complete your ballot when they are passed out on Sunday morning. And PLEASE, PLEASE make a special
effort to be present on Sunday evening at 6 when our guest preacher will be Don Hattaway, originally
from Coffee Co., now the pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cartersville, and the current President
of our Georgia Baptist Convention. Our first two Awesome August Sunday Night preachers have spoken
a powerful word to us and I have no doubt the Lord will use Brother Don to do the same. We will again
ask you to give sacrificially to our offering, which is not only providing a fixed honorarium for each one of
our guest preachers, but all gifts over and above that need will go towards Mission Georgia, our very
important State Missions Offering. PLEASE be present. We need you here!
I hope you never tire of me telling you how much I love you and how grateful I am to be your pastor! I am truly looking forward to what the Lord has in store for us this year. MAKING DISCIPLES –
ACROSS THE STREET and AROUND THE WORLD! It is going to be truly amazing to see how and
where He leads us to accomplish His mission in and through us!
See you Sunday! Pastor Wayne
