The Watertown Initiative began
by reaching out to a small group
of agencies and individuals, and
organized HOPE: Local Citizens

This was a larger issue, though,
which needed the help of parents,
teachers, and the broader
Watertown community.
HOPE
it began with
"After being alerted to the reality

Benedictine Sisters would do
something to prevent it."
At a national meeting of women
religious, Sister Marlene Minnaert,
the prioress of Mother of God
Monastery listened to horrendous
stories of women and children who
were sold into human slavery.

Trafficking began September, 2015.
In collaboration with civic and
religious groups, Mother of God
Monastery applied to Catholic
Health Initiatives for grant funding

Watertown and surrounding area.
The work of the group HOPE soon
expanded and needed further
