Dear Parents and Carers As the end of the school year approaches

Dear Parents and Carers
As the end of the school year approaches we are making preparations to say our goodbyes to those leaving us.
After seventeen years working as our Special Needs Coordinator, Mrs Phillips will be leaving her position as a
permanent member of staff at the school. She will however continue to offer the school advice and support, so
will keep in touch and be in school from time to time. Over the seventeen years that she has worked at the
school Mrs Phillips has seen many changes and worked with many children and staff. Her expertise has been
invaluable and ensured that the children receiving additional support have thrived at our school. She will be very
much missed by us all. Over the past year Ms Hart has been working alongside Mrs Phillips, to ensure a smooth
handover of this important area of work. We thank Mrs Phillips for the key contribution she has made to the
school being acknowledged by Ofsted as a ‘Good’ school.
On Friday we will also be saying goodbye to the nine pupils in Year 6 who will be leaving us at the end of term,
along with four of their families. This year the children will be going to five different secondary schools:
Chichester High School; Felpham Community College; Ormiston Six Villages Academy; The Regis School and the
Chichester Free School. We wish them happiness and success at their new schools. Please join us at the
Leavers’ Assembly to wish them well, on Friday 22nd July at 9.30am in the Coronation Hall.
Two of the families of the children leaving us have played an active part in supporting the school over many
years; Miss Ellis and Mr Carver have helped in countless ways over the past 15 years by regularly helping with
school trips, clubs and school fayres; Mr and Mrs Smith have been parents at the school for 13 years. Mrs
Smith was Chair of the Parents’ and Friend’s Association for a number of years and raised significant funds for
the school. We thank them for everything they have done for the children and staff of the school.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to making this a successful year
for all the children at the school, especially the following who volunteer in school on a regular basis:
 Leading Acts of Collective Worship – the Venerable Philip Jones, Hugo Van Driel and Pastor Steve Lomas
 Running the Parents’ and Friends’ Association – Su Lee-Smith and Fiona Pearce
 Reading with children - Faith Harris, Pat Huskisson, Moria Richards, Brian Reed, Ros Thornley and Julia
Shorrock-Freestone
 Running the school library – Fiona Pearce and Kim Thompson
 Helping with Gardening Club – Andy Carver, Lexi O’Connor, Natalie Trickett and Tony Elkin
I would also like to thank Hannah Woodhouse, now Hannah Thompson, (National Trust), who has taught the
children so much about our very special local environment this year.
There are a number of other people who give up their time to ensure our school is a successful school, namely
the school governors. Working behind the scenes, making key decisions, they are dedicated to the continued
development of the school. I would like to thank them on behalf of the whole school community for their
dedication to this work and especially our Chair of Governors, Mr Tony Elkin.
Last, but by no means least, thank you to all the staff of the school, who work extremely hard throughout the
year to ensure your children enjoy and succeed at school.
I hope you all have a very happy and restful Summer holiday.
With best wishes
