Mathematics: History / Geography: Investigating number order & place value including negative number and decimals. Further developing mental and written methods to solve calculations using the 4 operations and working on speed and confidence with all times tables. Using investigative skills to solve puzzles and word problems. Finding out about the history, geography and culture of Ancient Egypt. Developing research skills in preparation for our trip to Ipswich museum. Locating Egypt and its main physical features on a map. Year 6 Topic Map: Exploring Ancient Egypt Literacy: Linked to our Ancient Egypt topic we will start by looking at letter writing. We will also be working on newspaper reports and information writing. Later on in our topic we will be writing our own Egyptian myths! We will have weekly guided reading lessons as well as a weekly SPaG lesson (spelling, punctuation and grammar) Art Using hieroglyphs to create our own personal cartouches. Examining Egyptian portraits and recreating our own. DT Researching the purpose of canopic jars. Designing, creating and evaluating our own jars using papier-mâché and clay. Science: Identifying and naming the main organs in the body, studying in particular the human circulatory system. Recognising the impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on the way our bodies function. Continuing to develop investigation skills. Other subjects: French: Learning to talk about our houses and weekends. After half term we will be looking at our clothes. RE: Computing: Focussing on ‘e-safety’; learning how to make safe choices within our use of technology. PE: Team game skills. Developing ball, hand, and eye co-ordination. Swimming all term. Music: Finding out about ancient instruments and composing a temple chant to celebrate an Egyptian God.
