Welcome to
Trinity Church
Welcome to Trinity Presbyterian
Church! May you experience a strong
and loving welcome. All of us have
this in common: we need God’s
grace. Grace is not earned or
deserved but comes freely through
God’s gift of His Son Jesus Christ. We
desire for you to find this grace and
to live in its power. Nursery
If you have any questions about our
church or Christianity or specific
needs we can pray for, please contact
me, Pastor Todd, at 808-224-2010 or
by email at
[email protected].
Nursery
The nursery is located in the building
next to the sanctuary and is divided
into two age groups: infants and
toddlers. Parents can drop off their
children at 9:45 and can pick them up
at the end of the service.
Children’s Instruction
Children ages 4-9 are dismissed halfway through the service to Children’s
Instruction which includes Bible
stories and application of God’s Word
to real life. They meet in the
Education Building. They return to
the sanctuary for communion at the
end of the service.

Christianity does not want us to reduce by one atom the
hatred we feel for cruelty and treachery. We ought to hate
them... But it does want us to hate them in the same way
in which we hate things in ourselves. — C.S. Lewis
Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks
of changing himself. ― Leo Tolstoy
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the
LORD rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over
the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you and his glory
appears over you.
Then you will look and be radiant; your heart will throb
and swell with joy; the wealth on the seas will be brought
to you, to you the riches of the nations will come.—Isaiah
60:1-2, 5

Welcome*
Pastor Todd Capen
To all who are weary and need rest; to all who mourn and long for comfort; to all who feel
worthless and wonder if God cares; to all who fail and desire strength; to all who sin and need
a Savior; to all who hunger and thirst for righteousness; and to whoever will come—this church
opens wide her doors and offers her welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Call to Worship*
based on Psalm 40:5-6
Minister:
People:
Minister:
People:
Minister:
ALL:
Let us worship the triune God! Lord, open our lips!
And our mouth shall declare your praise.
Praise be to the Father, the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Blessed is the man who makes
the LORD his trust,
who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!
You have multiplied, O LORD my God,
your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us;
none can compare with you!
I will proclaim and tell of them,
yet they are more than can be told.
I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation;
behold, I have not restrained my lips, as you know, O LORD.
I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart;
I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation;
I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the
great congregation.

Song of Praise*
10,000 Reasons
Chorus
Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul,
Worship his holy Name!
Sing like never before, O my soul,
I’ll worship your holy Name.
The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning,
It’s time to sing your song again.
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me,
Let me be singing when the evening comes.
Chorus
You’re rich in love and you’re slow to anger;
Your name is great, and your heart is kind;
For all your goodness I will keep on singing,
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find.
Chorus
And on that day when my strength is failing,
The end draws near and my time has come;
Still my soul will sing your praise unending,
Ten thousand years and then forevermore.
Chorus (2x)

I Must Tell Jesus
Song of Confession
Contemplate God’s faithfulness displayed in the cross and repent
because He is good.
Words and Music by Elisha A. Hoffman, 1894
Tune: ORWIGSBURG
Let us each come privately to God in this time casting ourselves upon His goodness and grace
to help in time of need.
Assurance of Pardon in the Gospel based on Matthew 5:3 and Isaiah 66:1-6
Minister:
Jesus, you teach, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs in the kingdom of heaven.”
Lord Jesus, we humble ourselves before you. We are contrite in spirit.
People:
We tremble before you and your glory.
Minister:
If you confess your sins in Jesus’ name, you are forgiven.
People:
Lord Jesus, we seek your face and your kingdom.

Prayer will conclude with the Lord’s Prayer
All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be
done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our
debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Worshipping God With Our Gifts
O God, Our Help in Ages Past

Scripture Reading*
James 4:1-10
Pastor Todd
What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at
war within you? 2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you
fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because
you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. 4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that
friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the
world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture
says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? 6 But he gives more
grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 7 Submit
yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and
he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you doubleminded. 9 Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your
joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
Gloria Patri*
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end. Amen, Amen.

Preparing for the Lord’s Supper
Affirmations of our Faith* Heidelberg Catechism (1566 A.D.) Q. 1
Minister: What is your only comfort in life and death?
Pastor Todd
People: That I am not my own, but belong—body and soul, in life and in death—to my
faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood and has set me
free from the tyranny of the devil.
He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head
without the will of my Father in heaven: In fact, all things must work together for
my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and
makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.
Minister:
People:
Great is the mystery of faith:
Christ has died!
Christ has risen!
Christ is coming again!
Minister:
People:
Praise to you, Lord Jesus:
Dying you destroyed our death.
Rising you restored our life.
Lord Jesus, come in glory.
Minister:
People:
According to his commandment:
We remember his death,
We proclaim his resurrection,
We await his coming in glory.
Minister: Christ the bread of life:
People: When we eat this bread and drink this cup,
We proclaim your death, Lord Jesus,
Until you come in glory.
Blessing by the Minister
As Paul said to the Corinthians, so I say to you, Christ the Passover lamb is sacrificed
for us. Let us keep the feast! Minister’s Welcome To The Table

Communion at Trinity
Who is invited to take part? All baptized believers who have professed their faith before the
leadership of a Bible believing congregation that teaches the Christian faith in terms of faith
alone in Christ alone through grace alone are invited to join us at the Lord’s Table today. We
ask that children wait to partake in the Lord’s Supper until they have met with the Elders and
professed faith publicly.
What if I am not ready? If you or your children are not ready to partake in the Lord’s Supper,
you are still invited to come forward and ask the Elders to pray for you. You may also remain
in your seat to sing, pray, or meditate.
What is the process? We dismiss by rows and come forward, beginning with the middle
sections, then moving to the outer sections. With the elements of the Supper in hand, return
to your seat and take the elements when you are ready. As others go forward, we encourage
you to sing, pray, or meditate on the finished work of Christ. If you have difficulty coming
forward please notify one of the ushers and the elements will be brought to you. Wine is
served in the inner rings; grape juice is in the outer ring. There are gluten-free crackers
If you are not able to partake in the Lord’s Supper today, please use this time to meditate on
one of the following prayers:
Prayer of Searching for Truth: Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth and the life. If
what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are.
Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for
doing so. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing, and leads to the life
that you promise. Amen.
Prayer of Believing in Jesus: Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever
before believed, but through you, I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared to hope. I
thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross and offering forgiveness
and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and
receive you as my savior. Amen.
Prayer of Struggling Against Sin: Lord Jesus, grant that I may see in you the fulfillment of all
my needs, and may turn from every false satisfaction to feed on you, the true and living bread.
Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely to me, and run with perseverance the race
that you have set before me, looking only to you, the pioneer and champion of my faith.
Amen.
