Welcome to the Quilters Class Catalogue for the period of April through June 2017. This
catalogue is a current listing of upcoming classes. This catalogue will be updated on an
ongoing basis to reflect new classes as they are added.

Learning the Basics and Adding New Skills!
Off to a Great Start (Irene)
$80 including pattern
(Exempt from Class Pass)
Take your first step into the world of quilting and don’t look back. Using a
traditional four-patch block, this class will teach you the basics of rotary cutting,
strip piecing, borders, binding and basic machine quilting. No previous
experience is required other than straight line sewing! This class will give you
comfort in making your first quilt and using the new equipment.

Free Motion Quilting – Next Steps (Irene)
$50 + book
Have you mastered in-the- ditch quilting and dream of taking your machine
quilting to the next level? Irene encourages students to be creative with the
use of many free motion techniques. Students will first practice the
shapes/techniques on muslin squares then put them together to fill a mini
quilt. Traditional feathers, echo quilting, simple stippling, shells, floral stippling,
loopy meandering, spiral stippling, pebbles, and starbursts will be used.

Finishing School (Tammy)

Do you suffer from FOB ~ Fear of Binding? Are you confused about how to finish off
your quilt? Come join Tammy for two half day classes you will learn various options
for binding that will have you binding like a pro! You will learn traditional hand
finished, machine finished, prairie points, scalloped, bias, machine finished and
piped ~ could there possibly be any others?!

Grandma’s Cottage Quilt (English Paper Piecing with Irene)

Skill Level: Confident Beginer
English Paper Piecing has been around for hundreds of years and it is still
going strong. In this class, you will learn this traditional patchwork
technique of hand piecing using hexagon shaped paper. English Paper
Piecing is currently enjoying a resurgence in popularity, not surprising
since it is a versatile, portable and relaxing technique. In this class, you
will make the Grandma’s Cottage Quilt.
We will begin by learning how to prepare papers and fabrics. We will
then learn two techniques to baste the patches, followed by sewing the
shapes together with a whipstitch. Finally, we will applique the shapes
down on the background fabric.
Join Irene as she shows you her tips, tricks and techniques. Once you start, you will understand why it is
so darn addictive!

Hand Work with Maddie

Big Stitch, Stitchery, Wool Projects… Do you love working on small projects
that you stitch by hand? Why not join Maddie for a day of fun working on
whatever type of project that you want. Maddie always has lots of insights to
share and she will teach you how to add your own personal touch to your
projects. Bring your project and get ready for some learning with a lot of
laughter. Maddie’s classes don’t involve sewing machines and yet they are
always the loudest classes of the week!

Wool with Maddie

Have you wanted to try working with Wool without the commitment of a big
project? Our resident Primitives Expert, Maddie has been searching out some new
wool patterns and is eager for you to see them. These are small little projects that
you will be able to complete in an afternoon (or at least be well on your way to
having them complete). And if you enjoy the afternoon, have a say in the pattern
that will be selected for the next class!

Tumbling Triangles

By combining two contrasting fabrics you will create triangles
tumbling down the quilt. Using your V Block tool from Studio 180 Design,
this quilt is fun and quick. Quilt sizes range from 13", 27", 40", 53", 67" to
80" square, depending on the block size you choose. Grab a fabric with
lots of movement, and Leianne will help you jump right in and give it a
whirl. The end result is amazing!

How do I register for a class?
To guarantee your place in class, payment must be received at the
time of registration. To register, please call the store at 905-862-0666 or
come in for a visit and register in person.
Class registrations fees are non-refundable. If you cannot attend, you
can ask a friend to attend in your place.
Minimum Enrolment - Quilters Cupboard reserves the right to cancel
the class (with a full refund to registered students) if the minimum
enrolment for a class is not met.

What do I bring to class?
Supply lists and instructions will be available before the class.
Please do not purchase any supplies until the minimum enrolment is met.
Each student requires their own pattern or book that’s being used in the class.
To most of your classes you will need to bring the following items:
Sewing machine, pedal and manual, basic sewing kit, seam ripper, threads, scissors, machine
needles, quilting pins and Rotary cutting set including mat, rulers and a cutter.
Optional Items may include quilting gloves, mini-iron, 9” or 12” ruler.
Quilters Cupboard aims to keep the cost of classes down. We sincerely
appreciate the purchase of your supplies in our shop.
