Freedom Through Education
Tri-County Scholarship Fund Freedom Scholars
What is the Freedom Scholars Program?
It is a program geared to high school students of financial need and significant
academic achievement and potential. It’s a partnership between schools, families
and Tri-County Scholarship Fund (TCSF). Freedom Scholars benefit from having the
bulk of their tuition paid. TCSF and the participating schools each contribute the
same amount annually (just under half the tuition cost). Students’ families pay the
remainder. The program is for graduating 8th graders.
Expectations and Benefits of being a Freedom Scholar
Freedom Scholars exhibit high achievement: a B average or better is the norm both
in 8th grade and throughout high school. Emphasis is also placed on attendance,
homework, participation, service and general good behavior. In each high school,
Freedom Scholars have a designated mentor, a senior staff or faculty member, who
meets with them monthly. In addition, tutoring is available to all Freedom Scholars
along with college testing preparation in junior year and college essay preparation in
senior year. Top TCSF scholars have been awarded full tuition scholarships to Colgate,
Cornell, Villanova, UCLA, Rutgers, Georgetown, Notre Dame and the University of
Pennsylvania.
