Carl Junction R-I School District English Language Arts Grade 7, Duration 1 Year, 1 Credit Required Course English 7 Course Overview ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS: English Languarge Arts is the foundation from which life skill knowledge is attained. Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, listening, critical thinking and understanding of literature empowers students to achieve life goals through individual efforts and resourcefulness. Course Rationale SEVENTH GRADE: English 7 is a language experience course in which students explore different genres (types) of literature, ranging from poetry to novels, with an emphasis on reading comprehension and language appreciation. Incorporated within the study of literature are related writing, editing, and revising skills. Students write various kinds of texts for diverse audiences. The Accelerated Reading program, an individualized and computerized reading management program, provides students with the opporutnity to choose favorite authors and/or topics to read according to their abilities.
