Virginia VIEW: Kid's Search Report Anthropologist Description: Anthropologists study humans from the past and today to help others make public rules. They look at what humans looked like, things they did, how they talked, and things that humans made. They study how people live, their language, culture, and history. Duties: collect information interview people write about what they learn test data read and research Where and When: Some anthropologists work at "archaeological sites" Some may work in a lab or classroom teaching others about human history. Others may work for the government in an office telling others about human behavior. Most work 40 hour weeks, but some may work on the weekends doing research or traveling. What or Who They Work With: Tools that anthropologists use are: Scanners Power Saws Temperature cyclers X-ray machines CT Scanners Computers Map Computer Programs Video software to make movies Video camera or mobile phone with camera Camera Pictures Some work with archaeologists to study how humans lived long ago. Some work with biologists to discover how the human body has changed over time. Some work with history, language, and culture. Education and Training: Most need a Ph.D. from a college or university. This is the highest degree and usually includes 8 or more years of college after high school.
