Seventh Grade Science 1st Grading Period Power Objective: Academic Vocabulary: Explain how the survival of organisms depend on biotic and abiotic factors. (P.O. #2) biomes tundra (Tiagra, Temperate, Tropical, ect.) topography soil type adaptations biotic abiotic ecosystem symbiotic relationship mutualism commensalism predator-prey parasitic flood drought urban sprawl biological magnification primary succession secondary succession Biomes Enduring Understandings: Essential Questions: Earth’s biomes result from the topography, temperature, precipitation and soil type present in an area. The type of life (biotic factors) supported in an area is a result of the abiotic factors of the area. The populations and the abiotic factors interact to keep a balance in an ecosystem. The balance of an ecosystem can be effected by natural disasters and man-made activities. Which biome is formed from a specific combination of abiotic factors? How are organisms adapted to their specific biome? How do the interactions between the organisms keep a biome (ecosystem) balanced? What might be a possible effect of natural disasters and man-made influences on a ecosystem?
