Penguins’ Weekly Newsletter Friday 21st April 2017 Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome back to school! What a busy summer term we have planned! I am very excited to welcome you all back this week to what is going to be a super exciting term for us in Penguins. HOME LEARNING Literacy/Topic: As part of our new topic, Please choose and research a famous landmark. It can be any famous landmark in the world. If you have been there please feel free to bring some photos to share. Our Topic this term is going to be “a postcard home” we are going to be visiting different countries around the world and looking at their famous landmarks and interesting things about each country. Reading: Please read your book 4 times at home. Record the reading that you have done at home in your reading journal. We have had a week of revisiting fractions in Maths this week. In particular, we have been looking at fractions in word problems for example “Amy walks ¾ of a mile in 15 minutes. How long does it take her to walk a whole mile?” This has given the class a context in which to use their knowledge of fractions. Maths: Please continue to work on fractions with your child at home. This week we have been trying to pick out fractions in word problems. See attached for examples of the questions. In Literacy this week, we wrote instructions on “How to make a sandwich” - this may sound simple but WOW we sure wrote our instructions using some really high level language. I am super impressed with the effort of the children this week and how quickly they have settled back into routine. I would like to invite Year 2 parents to a ‘Question and Answer’ session about the up-coming KS1 SATs next Tuesday (25th April). This is an opportunity for you to pop in and see me regarding any queries or concerns that you might have so that I can put your mind at rest. The Q&A session will run for 15.15 to 15.45. Have a fantastic weekend, Miss Henderson Star of the Week Penguins, Our attendance for the last week of Spring term was 92.6% Let’s hope we can get back into the green next week! Remember every day missed is 6 hours of learning lost. This week’s star of the week is Oscar De-Broglio Kershaw. Oscar has really shown a fabulous mature attitude to his learning the week and has tried his hardest with every task set. Presentation of the Week George Watt is our star presenter this week because of his hard work and effort to join his handwriting cursively. Congratulations George on your beautiful handwriting! Important Information! Our PE days for this term will stay the same, Tuesdays will be indoor PE and Thursdays will be outdoor PE. Please ensure your child has their kit for both of these days.
